Thompson Eyeing Consistency After Wild Month of Racing

Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (July 23, 2019) – Tyler Thompson is rebuilding an old car in order to return to action this weekend.

Thompson has endured a roller coaster type of season thus far and this month hasn’t been any different. He won a Limited Sprints race at Cottage Grove Speedway before running into a mechanical problem two nights later.

The next week he powered to a third-place showing in the Western Sprint Tour Speedweek standings on the heels of a podium finish, two top fives and four top 10s during five races. Unfortunately, he damaged a frame in a wild crash at Cottage Grove Speedway during the Speedweek finale.

“We’ve had a lot of highs and lows this year,” he said. “We can’t seem to get a ton of momentum going. Once we get something good to happen something will go wrong. We need to keep good finishes rolling in and not have too many more DNFs.”

Thompson has a ton of confidence entering an ISCS Series doubleheader this Friday at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Ore., and Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway.

“I really like Willamette,” he said. “It’s a fun, racy track and we’ve had a lot of good finishes there. I think we normally finish in the top five, but we haven’t been able to win there. We’d love to get a win, but right now we’re trying to get momentum building so we’d be happy with a top five.

“I feel like we’ve ran at Cottage Grove so many races we can usually have a fast car no matter what is thrown at us. I’m a little more confident being that it’s our home track.”

The stout performance during the Western Sprint Tour Speedweek also gave Thompson a boost of confidence.

“That definitely exceeded our expectations based on the cars that raced that week and the level of competition,” he said. “It was a successful week for us. It’s hard to complain with finishing third in points.”
