5th-place result for Jackson Jr. as MARS returns at Farmer City
With the summer break in the books, the Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship returned with three events slated for the weekend. Tony Jackson Jr. picked up his ninth top-five finish of the year as the MARS season got back underway.
Twenty-eight MARS Late Models were at Farmer City (Illinois) Raceway on Friday to compete in the 15th annual Jr. Kimler Memorial. Jackson drove his Schlup Enterprises No. 56 Super Late Model from fourth to first in his heat race on the quarter-mile oval, then started fifth in the $5,000-to-win feature. He finished the 40-lapper in the same position, rounding out the top five behind Jason Feger, Justin Duty, Shannon Babb and Mike Spatola.
On Saturday, the MARS schedule shifted to Pevely, Missouri’s I-55 Federated Auto Parts Raceway Park, where 28 MARS Late Models were again on hand for a $5,000-to-win program. Jackson finished third in his heat on the 1/3-mile track, putting him ninth on the grid to begin the 30-lap A-Main. He came home 12th.
Mother Nature won Sunday’s scheduled event at Quincy (Illinois) Raceways.
Jackson currently occupies the fourth position in MARS Late Model Championship points.
