Jackson Jr. grabs best result of 3rd in MARS Memorial Day weekend slate
Three shows in the Land of Lincoln were on the docket for Tony Jackson Jr. over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. In a trio of Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Late Model Championship events, he turned in a pair of top-10 results and scored one podium finish.
On Friday, Jackson Jr. began three consecutive nights of racing as part of a 31-car MARS Late Model field at the 3/8-mile Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois. He drove his Schlup Enterprises No. 56 Super Late Model to victory in his heat race, starting him fourth in the 30-lap, $5,000-to-win feature. He climbed one spot in the race and finished third behind Ashton Winger and Jake Little. Fourth place went to Justin Duty, with Guy Taylor rounding out the top five.
Saturday saw a staggering 50 MARS Late Model competitors at Fairbury (Illinois) Speedway for the $5,000-to-win FALS Triple Down Shootout. Jackson narrowly missed a transfer spot in his heat race on the quarter-mile oval, but he won his B-Main to earn the 19th starting position in the 40-lap feature. He finished 16th.
The trio of MARS races wrapped up Sunday at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Illinois, where a 33-car Super Late Model field was on hand for the Gary Cook Jr. Memorial. Jackson finished third in his heat race on the quarter-mile track, then rolled off 10th in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main. He climbed two spots to take the eighth spot in the final rundown.
After the Memorial Day weekend events, Jackson is fourth in the MARS Late Model Championship standings.
