Kosiski Charges For 8th Place Finish at I-80; 10th Place Finish at Boone County

Andrew Kosiski rolled into I-80 Speedway Friday night coming off a runner up finish there last weekend, but early heat race struggles set the tone for night number two of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series season. (Todd Boyd photo)

After starting fifth and finishing fifth in his heat race, Kosiski would have to line up his All Makes Collision Center, Certified Transmission, Kosiski Auto Parts, Super Clean No. 53 in the 15th starting position for the 20 lap A main event. At the drop of the green the 22 car starting field found that ripping the cushion around the big 4/10th of a mile speedway was the preferred way around. Andrew, starting on the inside of row eight, immediately began working the low side of the track to try and gain track position. AK’s MB Custom chassis worked well on the bottom picking cars off one by one. The race went 20 laps straight through and when it was all said and done Kosiski took home an 8th place finish.

Andrew Kosiski took to the track for the first time in 2020 with the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series Sunday night at the Boone County Raceway, Kosiski took a bad draw and managed a top ten finish in the 25 lap A main event.

The night started off with qualifying time trials, after drawing 27th out of 36 cars, Andrew took to the track for his fast laps late in the session. Unfortunately the track had slowed down a great deal from the cars that went out early and Kosiski timed in 17th overall.

After the invert, AK started outside front row of the 10 lap heat race where he jumped to an early lead and set the pace for the first seven laps. On lap eight Kyle Berck would make the move in turns 3 and 4 getting by the No. 53; Andrew battled back on the inside of the No. 14 but couldn’t return the favor taking second place at the finish.

The 25 lap main saw Kosiski take the green from outside of row six. A lap seven caution flag seen had Andrew still in the 12th position on the leaderboard, but after the restart he would gain two spots before the yellow came out again on lap eight. The ensuing restart brought a battle for the 9th position between the No. 53, the No. 1 of Dylan Schmer, and the No. 26JR of Corey Zeitner. Zeitner prevailed with Kosiski and Schmer following and the rest of the race it remained that way with Andrew finishing 10th.
