Domination Turns To Last Lap Chaos For Kosiski at Cornhusker Classic

Andrew Kosiski and the Getzschman Racing Team entered night number two of the Cornhusker Classic with high expectations, but after dominating the feature event, a chaotic last lap turned into a DNF for the All Makes Collision Center No. 18. (Unique Perspective Photography)

With qualifying heat races on Friday night, Saturday’s 25 lap main event was the only race on the card for Andrew as he started in the middle of row one in the three wide start. It took multiple attempts to get the race started, but once it did Kosiski found himself in the third position on lap two when the yellow waved again. This time AK was able to use a run off the top of turn two to take the lead on the restart and keep it until the yellow came out again on lap three. The race seen numerous yellows after one or two laps time after time, each restart Andrew was able to drive away from the pack until lap 13 when the caution came out again erasing Kosiski’s 1.895 second lead. Track officials declared that the race would be shortened to a five lap shootout with the race being called if another yellow flag came out.

The restart, which ended up being the last one of the race, started with second place Cory Dumpert taking a big dive into turn one to try and pass Kosiski. “He drove it in there too hard to try and make something happen, I kind of expected it with them cutting the race short” said Andrew, “I either had to hit the brakes or get doored, so I hit the brakes and turned underneath him. I got the run coming off two underneath him and he turned left and he hit me a few times down the back straightaway. So as we entered turn three I didn’t turn and took him out.”

“You don’t race guys like that” stated Andrew, “you race guys like that and every time you’re going to get taken out or junked.”

“Big thanks to Karl and Tracie for putting this thing together, hate that it got torn up, but we had the best car and should of won the race.”

Kosiski was credited with a 12th place finish in the event.
