Kosiski Comes Home With 4th Place Run at The Bullring

Andrew Kosiski and Team 53 began a three race rode trip with the Hoker Trucking LLC Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series Friday night at the Davenport Speedway - K Promotions, Kosiski raced his way into the 40 lap main event and a late race restart ended the night just shy of the checkers.

With no time trials, the luck of the draw had Andrew starting fourth row inside of the 10 lap heat race. Kosiski was able to advance two positions, but that still had him on the outside looking in for the main event. AK started outside front row of the B feature and was able to finish in the third position which was the last transfer spot to the A main.

Starting 21st on the grid Kosiski wheeled around the top side of the 1/4 mile speedway for the beginning portion of the event. With the top and bottom being pretty even it was a battle every lap to gain positions. The race was halted on lap 36 when Bill Leighton Jr spun around going into turn three. The ensuing restart would be calamity as the field raced three wide many rows deep; contact between Jeff Aikey and another car slowed Aikey coming off of turn two. Andrew had no where to go plowing into the back of the No. 77 which caused the No. 58 of Dave Eckrich to pile into the No. 53. With heavy sheet metal damage Kosiski would retire from the race resulting in a 20th place finish.

Saturday night Andrew Kosiski and Team 53 hit the dirt of the Davenport Speedway - K Promotions 1/4 mile for the second straight night. Coming off a DNF on Friday, Kosiski finished 11th in the 40 lap Hoker Trucking LLC Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series main event Saturday. (Todd Boyd photo)

Time trials set the heat race line ups, and AK had one of his best performances of the year with the 5th fastest time overall put in at 15.375 seconds. Lining up third row inside in the first heat race, Kosiski couldn’t advance any position giving him the 13th starting position in the 40 lap A feature.

In the opening laps of the A feature Andrew hung around where he started and after losing a few positions he was finally able to make his way to the high side where he ran the cushion all the way around the 1/4 mile speedway. About the half way point of the race Kosiski and JC Wyman put together a great side by side battle for the 12th position for about a half a dozen laps; once he cleared the No. 4 Andrew went to work on last nights winner Andy Eckrich and made the pass for 11th with just seven laps to go. Kosiski would cut the deficit with tenth place runner Tad Pospisil in the closing laps but ran out of time taking the checkers in 11th position after 40 consecutive green flag laps.

Team 53 concluded the three day Hoker Trucking LLC Super Late Model Racing (SLMR) Series weekend Sunday night at The Bullring at Rock Island County Fairgrounds. After a strong qualifying performance, Andrew Kosiski wrapped up the evening with a 4th place finish in the 40 lap main event.

AK took advantage of his early qualifying draw laying down a lap of 14.501 seconds which was good for third quick overall out of 20 cars. Starting last in the third heat race Andrew was able to advance two positions to finish fourth which locked him into the top six invert. The first three rows of the feature were lined up by the inverted results from Saturday night placing the All Makes Collision Center, Certified Transmission, Kosiski Auto Parts, Super Clean No. 53 on the inside of row two.

The drop of the green seen the outside row get the advantage shuffling Kosiski back to the fifth position on lap one. Andrew stuck to the bottom and was able to make the pass on Matt Ryan for fourth position at the halfway mark of the contest. Kosiski would gap Ryan and run down Darrell Defrance who was in third. AK would get along side of “The Ironman” in turns three and four, but Defrance was able to get the advantage in turns one and two claiming the position and getting in line on the bottom which had became the dominant groove. The two would run down second place runner Jeff Tharp but there was no contesting for position the last few laps giving Kosiski a fourth place finish at the checkers.
