Andrew Kosiski Wins NASCAR Season Finale at I-80 Speedway
Andrew Kosiski and Team 53 would finish off a long Labor Day weekend in style by winning the 20 lap NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series race at I-80 Speedway.
Being Championship Sunday the top eight in points were inverted for the first heat race to determine the first four rows of the feature event. Andrew started seventh and was able to gain one position to finish sixth, lining him up third row outside in the A main event.
At the drop of the green Kosiski was on a mission, he took his All Makes Collision Center, Certified Transmission, Kosiski Auto Parts, Super Clean, Select Auto Omaha, Omni Inventive Care, We'll Smoke U BBQ No. 53 from the sixth starting spot to third in the first two corners on lap one. AK rode the bumper of cousin Brian Kosiski on the bottom side of the speedway in the opening laps as the two pressured race leader John Anderson. The caution flew just before the halfway mark for Anderson’s No. 21x that blew an engine coming off of turn four, giving the lead to Brian and placing Andrew in second place. The ensuing restart seen now third place runner Ben Schaller get the jump on Andrew and motor his way into the second position, but Kosiski fought back this time using the upper groove of the track to get back around Schaller. He then stayed the course going around Brian’s No. 52, stretching the lead into lap traffic the race went green the rest of the way with Andrew Kosiski taking the win by almost four seconds. Brian Kosiski was runner up followed by Schaller.
“This thing just had traction everywhere” said Kosiski about his Mars Race Cars MB Custom Chassis with Envy Suspension. “It was a hard pullin’ track tonight and VP Racing Fuels Stay Frosty kept our engine cool the whole race.”
“2020 has been such a crazy year, and the last month or so we have been running a lot better and I’m glad we were able to get a win for all of our sponsors” added Kosiski, “I really think we can do it again here in the next few weeks before the season ends.”
Entering the night the championship race had Schaller with a 12 point advantage over Andrew, with the victory and Ben finishing third, AK gained only 6 markers making Schaller the 2020 champion.
