Ray Parent
"My bad luck has bad luck"
Ray Parent’s luck has been a bit of a roller coaster throughout his 2013 racing campaign. The Amtrol Ford Fusion has been at the front of the field or heading towards a great finish week after week only to have a fluke or random issue take him from moving the stats in a positive direction.
This past weekend the defending champion of the Bond Auto ACT Invitational looked to turn that luck back to the winner’s circle in the 5th running of the event. Parent who practiced among the top-10 on the speed charts during the early morning session at New Hampshire Motor Speedway felt confident heading into the 50-lap special event.
“We had a great car in the morning,” stated Parent. “We didn’t even use our race tires and car showed good speed."
Parent rolled the 17RI from the 21st starting position courtesy of the draw. He moved into the top 15 within the first few laps. When the second caution flag waved on lap-4, fellow competitor Luke Hinkley radioed into his Team to inform Parents spotter the left-rear tire didn’t look right.
Parent headed down pit road to find a tire with 6psi in it; the cause a stuck wheel-bleeder. He would return to the pits under a lap-12 caution to make more adjustments and change the left-rear tire again.
Restarting in the 38th position he would advance 20 spots to cross the line 18th overall. Happy with the rebound his Team came back from, Parent left the Magic Mile frustrated with something as simple as a wheel-bleeder from keeping him from what he thought was a winning car.
“Overall the car was great," stated Parent. “My bad luck seems to have bad luck. It’s frustrating for sure. You keep looking at these things going wrong and say… Well we were running good at the time… But that gets to you for sure. But this Team does and will keep fighting. In the end we had a great car, the Team did an outstanding job and were coming to the front, that's still a great recovery.”
Parent looks to turn his luck around as the American Canadian Tour heads to Airborne International Speedway for the Fall Foliage 200 this Saturday. The annual event marks the final points race on the ACT calendar. The upstate New York 1/2-mile oval is a track Parent recorded a top-5 finish at earlier this year.
“We have a good car for Airborne… We are looking forward to getting back there and finishing strong,” stated Parent.
