Looking Ahead
Ray Parent and the Amtrol Racing Team are looking forward to a new month on their racing calendars and getting back to the consistent finishes they earned during the summer months.
Parent who stepped outside the American Canadian Tour two-weeks ago to compete at the Waterford Speedbowl’s 50-lap late model special took home a 10th place finish after getting caught-up in someone else’s mishap while running in the top five late in the event.
Followed up by a trip to the famed high banks of the Thunder Road Speedbowl for the Labor Day Classic; round #13 of the American Canadian Tour saw him take home a disappointing finish of 29th. Battling through a tough qualify race that had no one advance their position and a consolation round fighting handling issues. Parant started in the 30th position in the 200-lap event.
When the first caution waved on lap 37, Parent’s engine temperature was up over 240°F. After pitting it was determined the electric fan that cools the engine had malfunction. The Amtrol Team decided to park the 17RI machine to save the car to race another day.
“Sometimes you just have no luck at all,” stated Parent. “We struggled throughout the day up there. Had a tough qualifying heat that put us behind all day… When we had the cooling issue, there was no reason to try and fix it. We were already a lap down and weren’t going to salvage much.”
The Team headed to Loudon, NH to take part in the ACT test session at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. A successful day near the top of the speed charts has Parent looking forward to defending his Bond Auto Parts ACT Invitational title on September 21st.
“The car was really good there,” stated Parent. “We were among the top-5 each time we went out. It felt as good or better than last year; we were able to work on some things that will make the race day go much smoother for us. The car needs minimal work to be ready. We are going there to win it again and show that last year was for real. We are really looking forward to it.”
Before Parent can head back to the Granite State he and Team member Kyle Marchand will take part in the 13th Annual Seaside Le Mans in Mashpee, MA; the four-hour endurance karting race around the Mashpee Commons to help raise money for the Cape Cod Fountain. The European style go-kart event featuring six-person Teams made up of local businesses and racers from around the region has helped raise nearly $3.5 million dollars for the Cape Code Community.
"This event is a lot of fun," stated Parent. "But just because its for charity doesn't mean its not competitive... There are lot of racers that come and take part in it, but when you put the helmet on everyone gets serious. Its for a great cause we really enjoy doing it every year."
The event takes place on Saturday September 7, 2013 from 12-4pm. More information on the can be found at http://www.seasidelemans.org/index.html.
