Ray Parent
Continuing the Trend
Ray Parent and the Amtrol Racing Team continued their impressive start to the 2013 season as each week they meet new goals set for themselves. The Tiverton, RI driver took home another top five finish in state of Vermont on the American Canadian Tour.
The Team made the trip to West Haven, VT and the 1/2 mile Devils Bowl Speedway for the annual Spring Green 113. The site of Parent's first top five in ACT series competition one year ago. Parent wasted little time in his heat race as he rocketed from his 9 starting position to finish 4th and gain valuable passing points towards the feature lineup.
Garnering a +5 put him on the pole for the 113 lap event with fellow Welded Media driver Wayne Helliwell Jr. along side him. Fighting the preferred outside lane Parent battled among the top five for the first half of the event. " The outside lane was the place to be on restarts. The track was seeping water in turn one and you had to run a odd line to avoid it. We couldn't catch a break… we keep getting stuck down there, said Parent."
Falling as far as back as the 8th position Parent started a charge towards the front with 25 laps to go. He would methodically work his way back into the top five finally gaining the needed outside lane on a restart, he raced his way into the 3rd position.
A yellow with five laps remaining set up a shootout, Ray would restart on the bottom trying to avoid the obstacles. The outside lane would prevail as Ray would battle hard for a 5th place finish.
"We are happy but not satisfied. I didn't have anything for the front two [Helliwell and Hoar] but we had a third place car that finished 5th. I didn't need that last yellow we were holding our own in third. Never the less it was another top five run. It was great to be running upfront with all those guys. There was a lot of good racing going up there. I'm proud of all the guys, we had a good car today."
Ray and the Amtrol Team take the week off before heading to round #4 in upstate New York at Airborne Speedway. The ACT 100 lap event will mark the first mid season visit to the 1/2 mile oval in a number of years.
