Gary Taylor Behind the Wheel for El Paso and Las Cruces

Tomorrow night we are heading to El Paso Speedway Park for the first of two nights of ASCS National Tour action near the border. However, I will not be behind the wheel this weekend. Gary Taylor, originally from Snohomish, Washington, will pilot the Mesilla Valley Transportation, Napa Auto Parts 74x both nights and we are excited to get going. The past few weekends of racing I have been struggling behind the wheel, particularly at diagnosing what to do with the car so we thought it would be best for me to step out of the car for a couple of races and have somebody else get in the seat so that we can learn a few things. There is nobody more qualified to do just that than Gary. He has driven wing and non-wing sprints cars, both 360s and 410s, at high level and he is also an accomplished midget driver, both on dirt and pavement. His knowledge about the race car is tremendous as well so I know that it will be a valuable experience. We’ve worked with him a little bit in the past with me behind the wheel and there isn’t a better guy you’ll find in the pits. This year, Gary has been racing a lot where he currently resides, in Indiana without the wing. He has had some good success and this past weekend he was in Little Rock, Arkansas for the Short Track Nationals.

I’m looking forward to a great learning experience this weekend and hopefully a good run for the Hodges Motorsports team! I’d like to also give a shout out to all of our supporters for this season: Napa Auto Parts, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Ostrich Racing Engines, Art’s Radiators, Momentum Racing Suspensions, Smiley’s Racing OKC, ButlerBuilt, The Oil Medics, Conroy Pneu Control Maxim Chassis, FK Rod Ends, Wilwood, Hinchman Race Uniforms, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, K & N Filters, Ortega’s Appliance, Jackson Compaction and Equipment, Benic Enterprises, Hot Head Heaters, Tim Palmer Graphic Design, and Paint by Steve as well as Ryan Linder at X-1 Race Cars, Johnny Herrera, John Stroud, and “MacDaddy” Mark Rosborough.
