HMS Update - Heart O' Texas Speedway

Our first night of ASCS Gulf South action this weekend almost ended with a "w" but we came up just a bit short. The night was kicked off by pulling the #1 pill to start on the pole of the first heat. The track was really sloppy in hot laps and it was hard to tell how the car really was. In the heat, I was really tight, almost to the point of biking and I lost the first place spot on the first lap. Although third place challenged me the whole race, I was able to hold on to the second place finish in the heat, but that was not enought to get into the top-8 redraw. Rolling from the ninth starting spot, the track was slick and came to us a little bit. During the opening few laps after a first lap caution I started figuring out where my car liked to run and began to move forward. There were a couple of cautions during the course of the race and on the first one I was able to get one spot and on the second one I got two spots. With about ten to go I started reeling in first and second and on the final move I was able to just barely get beside them coming off of turn 4 but I ran out of time. With another few laps or another caution I think we would have had a really good shot at winning it but we are satisfied rolling it into the trailer with a third place finish. Now we will move on to Killeen, TX and Texas Thunder Speedway tomorrow night. It will be the first time the ASCS Gulf South will have visited the venue.
