HMS Update - Hall of Fame Classic

It ended up being a pretty good weekend for us, making our first appearance at a USAC National race at the Hall of Fame Classic at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, AZ. The second night we went out early in qualifying when the track still was greasy and slick so it turned out to be a slow lap compared to later times, ultimately timing in 23rd, but we just squeaked into the invert, putting us on the pole of the third heat. In the heat races the track was heavy, fast, and had a tall cushion on each end. After the first start was called back, we got under way and I was able to grab the lead after some contact on entry to turn one. The race went green to checkered and I was able to lead all 8 laps on the cushion to win the heat race. This meant that we were in the A-feature but the lineup goes back to qualifying so I would ultimately start 21st (after 2 cars ahead of me failed to make the feature). The track stayed heavy and fast all the way to the feature but the cushion was knocked down and the track was tough to pass on. I rode right around 20th the whole race, advancing to finish 15th after several cars dropped out. Even though the second night wasn't exactly what we wanted, just making the feature with the USAC guys two night in a row was good for us, let alone getting a top 10. It was also good to get some valuable experience and roll the car in the trailer. Our next race looks to be with the ASCS National Tour in El Paso, TX and Las Cruces, NM on November 9th and 10th.
