HMS Update - Battle at the Border
This weekend we are racing close to home with the ASCS National tour traveling to El Paso, TX tomorrow for the first night of the Battle at the Border at El Paso Speedway Park. The last time the ASCS National tour visited the track was in 1994 when Rickey Hood was victorious. The second night will be in Las Cruces, NM at Southern New Mexico Speedway which has hosted November National race weekends each of the past two years. The top ASCS drivers as well as some World of Outlaw and regional drivers are expected to be there this weekend. Two years ago I struggled in Las Cruces with ASCS, ending it upside down, but last year I was able to make the A feature on the prelim night and just miss it the second night with a stout field of drivers. Earlier this season we visited the two track without the wing, as well. Over 40 cars were present and after coming through the B in El Paso, I came from last to about 6th before getting caught up in a wreck. In Las Cruces I battled for the lead the whole feature with Rickey Hood, Charles Davis, and Jeff Swindell until it took rubber and I ended up 3rd. We hope for two solid runs before heading into Western World next weekend.
This year’s 45th Annual Western World Championships are at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, AZ and host both the ASCS National tour and the ASCS Canyon region. As I have the past two years, I will be doing double duty but this year I will be driving for Ryan Linder in the non wing portion. Thursday will be the non wing car and on Friday will be the wing. I’m excited to get back to Canyon after having a decent weekend with USAC there just a couple weeks ago and having one of my better ASCS National tour weekends there at the Copper Classic in the season opener. I will also be participating in the Jeff Gordon Foundation Kick-It for Children’s Cancer kickball event on Saturday, the 17th.
