HMS Update - Devil's Bowl Speedway

The 39th Annual Spring Nationals are wrapped up at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX. It was my 5th night in ASCS National Tour action this year and we hoped to continue our good performance from Arizona. I started the night pulling pill 46 which scheduled me to start 5th in the 4th heat but after a car dropped out in front of me, I started 3rd. Even after heavy rains all week in the Dallas area, the track managed to make a small black streak through the middle by my heat race but there was still enough good track that I was tight. On the start I pushed the front end off of turn 2 and fell back to 5th and from there the track was wide open and tough to pass on. I managed to get one car which was enough to set me starting outside of the front row of the 2nd B-main. The track slicked off some more but we actually freed the car up from the heat because we were so tight and it made a big difference. I fell into 2nd on the start and lost the leader but in the last 5 laps, once I got my rhythm going, the car felt really good. A 2nd place finish transferred us into the A-feature and I started 20th. They tilled the track and on the initial start several cars pushed, including me, and there was a wreck that I was barely able to get by. On the next start I was still tight but after a few laps I was able to get the car rolling and deep into the run the car felt like a rocket and I caught and went by several cars. After a mid race red I found myself in about the 13th spot but the restarts proved to be tough for me because my car was extremely tight early on in a run but came in about 4 or 5 laps later. I lost a car or two on the restart and fought my way back to 12th with about 5 to go when another yellow came out. On the restart I lost three spots again and didn’t have enough time to recover so I ended up settling for 15th. I was pleased with the car at the end of the night and a 15th place finish is not so bad especially after the tough races we’ve faced at Devil’s Bowl. Our plans now for the next few weeks are unclear but we will post races on our website when we decide when and where we are going.
