Nienhiser Takes Positive Out of Trying Weekend

PC: Mike Harris

PETERSEN MEDIA: Paul Nienhiser had one of those weekends where anything that could go wrong, did indeed go wrong. Despite a tough weekend, Nienhiser was able to step back and take some positives away from two nights of action.

“It was a tough weekend for us, but it wasn’t for lack of effort,” Nienhiser said. “We had good speed both nights, and we were able to make an Outlaw show which is huge.”

Nienhiser’s weekend opened up at Jacksonville Speedway on Friday night with MOWA. A draw show format, the Chapin, IL driver would line up in the second row of his heat race.

On a rough and tumble track, Nienhiser would slip back in the first few laps, but as the heat moved along, he would master the ruts and actually raced his way into the lead only to see a caution flag negate his pass. Back in second, the leader would have trouble in front of him and with nowhere to go, Nienhiser would get upside down.

Making repairs to get his machine ready for the feature, Nienhiser would line the Cam2 Blue Blood Racing Oil/Mason Sound/Innovative Design entry up in the back of the pack.

Getting off to a great start, Nienhiser would race his way forward and would find himself well inside the Top-10 until bad luck found him again. With more carnage breaking out in front of him, Nienhiser would endure front end damage and opted to take his car back to his trailer and call it a night.

Traveling to Pevely, MO on Saturday to battle the World of Outlaws, Nienhiser would have some lingering brake issues force his team to scramble before time trials.

Still fighting some issues from Friday night’s flip in time trials, Nienhiser would time in 12th quickest in Group A battling a vibration before the team was able to make a drive line switch.

Heat race action saw Nienhiser jump into a transfer spot after making a big time move around Brian Brown, but he would soon have his hands full as he would lose a power steering line. Hanging on with everything he had, Nienhiser would keep a transfer position and was in the feature event.

Rolling off from the 19th starting position, Nienhiser would settle in and soon feel fuel spraying on his leg. With the track taking rubber, Nienhiser made the safe decision and pulled off the racing surface and ended his night.

“It was certainly one of those weekends where you pull your hair out,” Nienhiser said. “I have to thank my entire crew for all of their hard work. I really could not do this without my Dad, Ralph, Roger, Greg, Bobby, Craig, and Drake busting their tails weekly for me.”

Nienhiser would like to thank CAM2 Blue Blood Racing Oil, Mason Sound, Innovative Design, Bradshaw Custom Pumping, Wessler Bros. Agency, Bob Hawks Auto Body, Littleton Storm & Timer, Fierce Herbicide, Sunstoppers Window Tinting, Engler Machine and Tool, FK Indy, Rider Racing Engines, Kaeding Performance, and Steve Thomas Racing for their continued support.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Races-6, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-1

ON TAP: Nienhiser will be back in action this Friday and Saturday at Park Jefferson International Speedway.
