Dirt Track Star Salute wins go to Floyd, Richards, Hendrickson, Richards & Harker

By Greg Soukup
Saturday at Eagle Raceway was Dirt Track Star Salute Night, presented by Pepsi Cola of Lincoln. 141 teams pulled into the pits, ready to put on a great show for the big crowd in the grandstands; and they did that as is the usual at America’s Home Track.
There were no serious incidents in the preliminary racing action.
The first attempt in the A Feature for the A1 Iron IMCA Stock Cars was called back due to a 7-car pileup in turn 4 when Zach Bohlmeyer spun his #24Z collecting Casey Woken’s 35JW, the 24T of Tommy Etherton, the 55X of Tim Drake, Tyler Jackson in the 13T, Jakob Boucher’s 5J and the 46 of Ryan Gilland. The subsequent restart also had to be called back when Marty Steinbach’s 5ELI slid up into the 8C of Chad Andersen spinning both of them in turn 4 with Gilland and Jackson again getting caught up in the pileup. Steinbach went to the pits to replace a flat right front tire and rejoined the race as Andersen joined the field at the rear with the other 2 being towed to their respective pit stalls. The first official lap saw Travis Patterson lead the field in the 17TK followed closely by the 36 of Dana Deeke, Riley Ruisinger’s 7 and the 55X of Tim Drake. Drake advanced to third the following lap with Mason Richards also passing Ruisinger to put the 18M into fourth place. Richards passed Drake on lap 5 to move up to third and got past Deeke for second 2 laps later. Richards overcame a 1.4 second deficit to catch and pass Patterson with just 6 circuits remaining to grab the lead as Andersen moved up to fourth. Andersen continued his move to the front with 4 laps left as he passed Deeke for third. Deeke regained third the following lap but Andersen retook the second position the next time around. Your final top 4 were Richards, Patterson, Andersen and Deeke.
Richards’ win came from deep in the starting grid. He related “Yeah! 17th to first plus a double Hard Charger award in the Modifieds and Stock Cars makes for a pretty danged good night. It was another great points night in the stock car for National points and everything. I picked up a couple of points on a couple of guys I’m battling for track points. The car was just great tonight! But, without those 2 cautions I don’t know if I could have pulled off the win after starting 17th. There was a groove on the top and the bottom and we just happened to have a rocket of a car.” Mason’s sponsors include C&L Automotive, TR’s Tool Service, Jet Racing, Wealth Management, Spanel Engines, Blackstone Builders, Riha Lawn Mechanics, Grill Starters and N&N Auto.
The Nebraska Septic IMCA Racesaver Sprint also had its first start called back when Cameron Thompson’s 2T bounced several times in turns 3 and 4 before flipping and landing on top of the 2A of Alex Salzman collecting Mike Boston’s 45C. Neither driver was seriously injured but their race cars were too badly damaged to continue. Gene Ackland was out front of lap 1 in the 14G with Tyler Hendrickson’s 14T second, Justin Bolte’s 17 third and Adam Gullion rounding out the top 4 in the #91. Dillon Knudson’s 3G stopped in the entrance to the pits on lap 7 for a caution. The Eastepwheels.com Choose Cone was placed on the front stretch with the top 4 remaining the same. Cole Wayman passed Gullion for fourth on the restart, putting the 18W into that position. Jason Danley put the 4X into fourth place the next lap but Wayman jumped all the way up to third after 1 more lap with Bolte also passing Danley to regain fourth. Danley passed Bolte the next time around for fourth. Hendrickson snagged the lead on lap 12. 2 laps later Danley got past Wayman for third position and advanced to second place with 8 to go. 3 laps later Tyler Drueke’s 12T came to a halt coming out of turn 4 with 5 laps left and was pushed to the pits. The restart saw Wayman move back up to third as Brandon Horton put his 1B into fourth with 2 to go. Your top 4 were Hendrickson, Danley, Wayman and Horton.
This was Tyler’s first ever sprint car win an he was all smiles as he said “That was a good run, but it was difficult figuring out the hole in turn 3 but I could get through it pretty fast. It’s been a while waiting for this first win because we couldn’t seem to get it all together or something would go wrong but we finally got it all together and get a good result.” Tyler’s sponsors include Rod’s Auto Service, Down the Hatch and Techniques as well as his grandfather, Mother and Dad.
Your Avid Realty IMCA Sportmod Main Event saw the 43T of Tyler Remereid out front followed by the 19X of John Allensworth, Tyler Deeke’s 15 and the 2A of Theron Ahlman. Deeke lost the right front tire off his mount on lap 2 to slow the action and bring out the Choose Cone. The order was Ahlman, Remereid, Noah Williams in the 27W and Allensworth. The restart saw Remereid, Ahlman, Williams and the 31S of Jacob Swanson your top 4. Cole Wayman passed Swanson on lap 7 to put the V18W into fourth place. The 66K of Jacob Slough spun out in turn 4 on lap 9 collecting the 09RX of Randy Fox. The Choose Cone appeared again with the top 4 being Remereid, Ahlman, Williams and Wayman. Shawn Pospisil’s 6SJ made hard contact with the back stretch wall on the restart and spun to a stop. Wayman vaulted all of the way up to first on the restart with Remereid holding onto second, Williams in third and Ahlman fourth. Aiden Floyd passed Ahlman the following circuit to put the 7F into fourth. Williams and Floyd both passed Remereid the next time around to advance to second and third. Mason Richards joined the top 4 after 1 more lap, putting the 18M into fourth. Floyd moved up to second with 7 to go. The next lap saw Remereid take back third place from Richards. Swanson looped it in turn 1 with 5 to go and the yellow flag was displayed again. Just 5 laps were left when Floyd passed Wayman for the lead as Derek Hall moved up to fourth in the 44D with 3 to go. Richards took the fourth position back on the final lap to make your top 4 Floyd, Wayman, Williams and Richard.
Floyd left before being interviewed. This was his first Eagle Raceway Sportmod victory.
Clint Homan’s 27 was first back to the flag stand on lap 1 of the Nebraska Lottery IMCA Modified A with Tracy Harr second in the 21, Aaron Pella’s 3A third and Nate Thompson fourth in the 3T. Shawn Harker put the #40 into third place on lap 2 and passed Harr for second the next lap as Thompson regained the fourth position. Tyler Harr’s 21T came to a halt sideways in the pit entrance on lap 5 to bring out the Choose Cone. The top 4 at the cone were Homan, Harker, Tracy Harr and Thompson. Harker used the restart to take the lead away from Homan as Thompson moved up to third and Bob Zoubek passed Tracy Harr to put the 5S into fourth place. 9 to go saw Thompson pass Homan for second place, only to lose the spot back to Homan the following circuit. Tracy Harr spun out on the front stretch the next time around for another caution. The Choose Cone lineup was Harker, Homan, Zoubek and Thompson. The restart saw Zoubek advance to second with Adam Armstrong’s 60 third and Cameron Thompson moving his 2T into fourth. The final change in the top 4 came with 3 laps left when Ricky Stephan took over fourth place in the #25. Your top 4 at the checkered flag were Harker, Zoubek, Armstrong and Stephan.
This was win #2 on the year for Harker after starting 7th. He stated “The car was really good tonight. Clint got out to the lead and I kept running the same line. Then, we had that yellow and I thought ‘What the heck? I’m going to dive bomb the bottom in turn 1 and drag race him down the back stretch off of turn 2, beat him into 3 and it worked out. Most of the time it doesn’t but this time it did.” Shawn’s sponsors include Roads Chassis, Speedway Shocks, Jet Racing, Patriot Crane and Rigging, Shark Bait Candy, “R” Cart Services, Noonan Industries, King Equipment, Patriot Heavy Haul, Tex Cattle. Speedway Racing Engines and Final Grade.
The final A Main and your draw/redraw competition with bonus money added to the purse was for the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks. Eric Chab’s 11, Dan Markham in the #6, Dillon Richards’s 24R and the 19H of Colin Hein were your top 4 after 1 lap. Richards passed Markham on lap 2 to take over second. Hein also got past Markham the following circuit to advance to third. Tyler Smith put the 22T into third the next time around as Hein held onto the fourth spot. Richards got past Chab for the lead the next circuit. Hein passed Smith on lap 6 for third place. Ben Becher put his 4B into fourth the following lap. Despite a furious battle for second between Chab and Hein and one between Becher and Smith, your top 4 remained unchanged with Richards grabbing another victory, Chab second, Hein third and Becher fourth.
As that last checkered flag flew it began to sprinkle, hastening the departure of a lot of teams including Floyd and Richards. Dillon’s sponsors include Koozer Painting, Fester’s Bait and Tackle, Swift Racing Springs, S & L Trenching, Noonan Industries LLC, Multi Fire Plug Wires, Aero Wheels, Integra Shocks, Backspin Entertainment, Van’s Waterproofing, Toy Scout, Nelson Tree Service, Cat’s Fireworks, Seven2Carts, Epp Farms, Wiring Solutions, Precision Auto Tune Inc., Neapco, In Memory of Jr Craig, In Memory of Tom Miller, Troy Cepak, Jet Racing, Extreme Motorsports, Schafer’s Oil, Schoenfeld Headers, Inline Healing, 4G’s Powder Coating and Freese Farms.
