Battle for David Tarter Rookie of the Year Award Winding Down

Battle for David Tarter Rookie of the Year Award Winding Down

CHICO, CA (8-20-14) - The David Tarter Rookie of the Year Award battle has been intense all season long. Our three contenders include, Rowdy McClenon driving the Hot Rods to Hell #13 machine. Rowdy decided it was time to jump into the 410 sprint car this year after multiple successful seasons in the wingless sprint car. Michael Ing who is competing in his first full season in the 410 Sprint Car driving the Ing Excavating #21m. The third driver while still considered a rookie in the 410 Sprint Car class has been around the racetrack for the last three years. "Flip Flops" Branden Mansfield is also competing full time for the first time in his career. These three drivers make up quite the competitive Rookie class.

Rowdy McClenon has competed in all nine 410 Sprint Car point races this season. In those nine events McClenon has earned four top tens. Rowdy will have a lot on his mind this upcoming friday night as he will not only be competing in the 410 Sprint Car. Rowdy is scheduled to drive Dave Johnsons Famous #32 non-wing sprint car. The reason for that is, he won the 6 foot tall Pepsi Night Trophy in 2013, and he is going to try and win it for the 2nd year in a row. Michael Ing has been impressive as well. Ing missed a race early in the season and is still tied with McClenon with 274 points. Ing has three top tens in eight starts at Silver Dollar this year. Branden Mansfield has competed in all 9 events as well, and has finished inside the top ten three times. All three drivers are still looking for their first A-Main top five, and it wont be long till they are all contenders week in and week out.

Going in to the final night of racing these three drivers will face a tough battle in their search for that elusive top five finish, and ultimately the David Tarter Rookie of the Year Award. The Tyler Wolf Memorial Race marks the final Points Race of the season at Silver Dollar Speedway. Top drivers from across the state are expected to make appearances on this night. Including, Rico Abreu who returns to California to try and play spoiler, Jonathan Allard is scheduled to return, as well as Kyle Hirst. Many of the KWS series regulars are expected to be on hand as a last chance to hit the Speedway once more, prior to the Gold Cup Race of Champions presented by Chuck Patterson Ram Trucks.

As the standings fall right now. Rowdy McClenon and Michael Ing are tied at 274 points each. That puts them eighth and ninth in the overall points at the Speedway. Branden Mansfield lost some ground last friday night when he lost a driveline in qualifying and had to pull off early in the A-Main. Mansfield is sitting on 256 points and is 12th in overall points going into the final night of racing. It will be fun to watch these three drivers duke it out one more time to see who will be crowned the 2014 David Tarter Rookie of the Year.

If you would like to see how this Rookie battle plays out, than come on out to the Silver Dollar Speedway this Friday, August 22nd for the Tyler Wolf Memorial presented by Chico Volkswagen and Cherry St. Mini Storage. There will be five divisions doing battle on this night, not just for the Main Event wins but five champions will be crowned as well. Featured will be the 410 Sprint Cars, Wingless Sprint Cars, Dirt Modifieds, Ltd. Late Models, and the Street Stocks. Front gate opens at 6:00pm with qualifying scheduled to start at 6:30pm and racing starting at 7:00pm.
