Becker Hangs on for Third Fall Nationals Title
CHICO, CA (9-27-14) -Â Sean Becker had to overcome a lot of adversity tonight to pick up his Third Fall Nationals Title. "I really want to thank Dan Menne, it's because of him that we win all these races. He always sets the car up perfectly." Stated Becker in Victory Lane. Sean was happy to be able to win this race in memory of Stephen Allard. He celebrated in victory lane with Stephen's family, and got to hoist the brand new Stephen Allard Perpetual Trophy.
At the drop of the Green Flag it was Fremont, CA driver Shane Golobic who would jump out to a commanding lead. Shane would lead the first 17 laps of the race. Lapped traffic though would play a huge part in the outcome of this one. Becker was able to catch Golobic in traffic numerous times, but just as the action would heat up the caution would fly. Finally Sean was able to pass Golobic on Lap 18 and would begin to stretch his lead out. Once Becker would catch lapped traffic Golobic would close back up. Around Lap 30 however, Sean Becker's nose wing would come loose. For three laps Sean wheeled the car with the nose wing flapping across the front of the car in his eyesight. Sean would catch a lucky break though as the caution would fly right as the nose wing fell off of the car. Under the Yellow Flag the officials had no choice but to throw the Red Flag for fuel, as the cars had completed more than 80 laps when adding in the laps under caution. The drivers were told at the drivers meeting that there would be a fuel stop after 80 laps if needed. With the Open Red Flag conditions, Becker was able to get a new nose wing attached to the car before the restart with 7 to go. When the race went back to green Becker was shot out of a cannon. Sean extended his lead by a large margin as the laps wound down. With 2 laps to go Becker would get held up just a bit by a slower car. That would allow Golobic to close to within two car lengths of Becker. The two drivers crossed under the white flag nose to tail. Shane followed Sean to the bottom in One and Two. In turns Three and Four, Sean went high, Golobic went low. Golobic nearly got enough pull off of the bottom to pass Becker at the stripe, but it was Becker who would win by about a half a car length over Shane Golobic. Third place went to young DJ Netto, who was very impressive this weekend. Kyle Hirst piloted the Finley Farms #77 to a fourth place finish while Gold Cup Champion Jonathan Allard rounded out the top five finishers.
Shane Golobic set the fastest lap in Qualifying with a time of 12.658 seconds. A total of 51 cars made a lap in Qualifying. Heat Race Action saw Andy Forsberg, Kyle Hirst, DJ Netto, Seth Nunes, and Bud Kaeding pick up victories. A scary accident occurred during Heat Race Number One, when contact with another car sent Scott Parkers machine flipping in turn two. Luckily Parker's car landed on all four wheel's as when he came to a stop his car erupted in a ball of flames. Parker jumped out of the burning vehicle with flames on his driver's suit. The Silver Dollar Speedway way fire crew was quickly on the scene dousing the fire before any damage was done. Parker did walk to the ambulance for precautionary reasons but was ok. Steven Tiner picked up the win in the C-Main Event. Also transferring out of the C and in to the B Main were Kevin Sharrah, Heath Hall, and Colby Weisz. Greg DeCaires picked up the B-Main event win in the Dale Miller owned Tribute to Stephen Allard #4SA car. Also earning transfer spots into the main event were, Koen Shaw, Steven Tiner who charged from the C-Main through the B-Main and into the A-Main Event in a stellar effort, and Kenny Allen. Shane Golobic was able to win the Dash from the fourth starting position, thus putting him on the Pole of the Main Event. Jonathan Allard got upside down in turn four during the Dash causing major top wing damage, and a lot of damage to the front end of the vehicle. Allard would be done for the dash but would return to finish fifth in the A-Main Event.
The Main Event Win for Sean Becker was the 52nd of his Career at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA. That wraps up the 2014 Race Season for the Silver Dollar Speedway. It was a great season that saw first time winners, first time champions, many great races, and many great fans. Thank you all for your support of the speedway. See you next year!
