Becker Picks up Another Win; Law Claims Mini Stock Championship
CHICO, CA (8-1-14) -Â With the Tri Counties Bank Championship Season winding down at the Silver Dollar Speedway, the action continues to pick up. On this night, Points Race #13 presented by Dutch Bros. Coffee, the Mini Stocks finished off their season in exciting fashion, with Jimmy Ford winning the Main Event, while Howard Law was able to hang on to win the Mini Stocks Track Championship at the Silver Dollar Speedway. In victory lane both drivers praised each other for the good hard and clean racing. Howard Law also announced his retirement as well from the division. On behalf of the Silver Dollar Speedway we would like to congratulate our 2014 Mini Stock Track Champion not only on a great season but on a wonderful career as well.
The Mini Stock Main Event was an eventful one that saw a lot of passing and overall great racing. Jimmy Ford won in dominant fashion by way of leading all 20 laps of the main event. He did everything he could tonight but came up just 8 points short of winning the championship. In an extremely exciting last lap, last turn move James Foster drove to a very strong 2nd place finish. While eventual Champion Howard Law would barely edge Shaun Merritt at the Finish Line for the 3rd spot, with Ryan Cherezian rounding out the top five. The Mini Stock Trophy Dash was also claimed by Jimmy Ford who was adamant about continuing the Trophy Dashes next year and involving the kids again. "It's a great way to get the fans, and children more involved in the sport." stated Ford. Heat Race wins were snagged by Hunter Merritt who celebrated his 16th birthday at the Speedway tonight, and New Track Champion, Howard Law.
Sean Becker was in a league of his own tonight, as he dominated the Main Event. Sean led every lap of the Main Event en route to victory. On the original start it was Becker and Andy Forsberg out of Auburn, Ca. On the front row. When the Green Flag waved, Forsberg utilized the high line of the racetrack to get in front of Becker down the backstraight. Only to see the caution come out for Adam Brenton who had spun in turn 2, causing a complete restart. With that, Becker went back to the drawing board and took the high line away from Forsberg entering turn one on the restart. He never looked back from there. What made the win even more exciting for Sean was that a big time supporter of his, Cherry Street Mini Storage, had put up an extra $500 for the winner of tonight's main event! The folks at Cherry Street have done so much, not only for Sean but for Silver Dollar Speedway in general. They truly are wonderful supporters of the speedway. Andy Forsberg backed up last weeks victory with a 2nd place run tonight driving the PT Shocks #7c. It was nice to see Justyn Cox back at the Silver Dollar Speedway driving the Cox Racing LLC, Capitol Casino, #31c to a 3rd place finish. Mason Moore drove the Moore Insurance, Wings of Eagles #22 car to a 4th place finish. While Steven Tiner rounded out the top five in the Steven Tiner Racing, Wright Process Systems, Larry Davis Land Leveling #94 machine to a "Proper" 5th Place Finish. Heat Race Wins were claimed by New Zealand driver Jamie Duff in the #83sa Tiner Racing car, and Mr. Excitement, Andy Forsberg in the #7c. Sean Becker wheeled the Menne Motorsports 75 hotrod to his 28th career Fast Time award at the Silver Dollar Speedway with a lap of 12.747.
In the Winged Economy Sprint Car Main Event Cameron Haney would lead the opening Eleven Laps of the race, before getting a little too sideways in turn two and looping the car around. It was great to see Haney at the Track and running well. He, and his kids do everything they can do to earn money to buy parts for the race cars. Anything from scrapping wrecked wings they collect to selling old parts to buy new ones. It really is a family deal for them and it was good to see them at the Silver Dollar Speedway. After the spin though, it was Shawna Overton who would inherit the lead at the line only to slow down thinking the caution had been waved for the Haney spin, only there had been no caution. When Overton slowed she was split by Scott Gannett and Jason Standley, with Standley coming out with the lead and ultimately the victory. With the win Standley was able to extend his slight points advantage just a little bit over 2nd place finisher Scott Gannett who is also 2nd in Points. Shawna Overton would be scored in the 3rd position. While Ron Wyman and Cameron Haney rounded out the top 5. Scott Gannett was victorious in the One and Only Heat Race for the division.
Brian Compton was dominant en route to his 10th Career victory in the Hobby Stock class at Silver Dollar Speedway. Compton battled side by side with Points Leader Jesse Skidmore for a number of laps before finally clearing him down the back straightaway and going on to win the Main Event. Skidmore would finish 2nd minimizing the Points loss as much as possible. Clinton Earl drove a great race and finished in the 3rd position. While Kyle Allen and Shannon Collins rounded out the top five.
