Allard Outduels The Shark For 3rd Win of the Year
CHICO, CA (6-13-14) -Â All you had to do was take a look at the front row of tonight's 25 lap feature to know it would be a legendary battle. Sean Becker and Jonathan Allard led the field to the green flag and put on a spectacular show, with Jonathan Allard picking up career win #52 at Silver Dollar by about a car length aboard the Clyde Lamar owned Tri-C Machine #3c. With new crew chief Randy VanKeuren wrenching the car. JA was joined in victory lane during Points Race #8 Presented by Orielly Auto Parts, by Terry Schank Jr. winning the Permazyme Wingless Sprint Car Main, Phil Marino in the Street Stock Division, Brian Compton in the Hobby Stocks, and up and comer Logan Seavey in the BCRA Midget Lites.
Sean Becker led the field down to the Green Flag in the Menne Motorsports #75, from the Pole Position tonight, but it would be Jonathan Allard who would pull out front down the back straight on lap 1. Although JA did indeed lead all 25 laps of the the main event at the Start/Finish line it was by no means an "easy" win. Sean Becker hounded Allard the entire race. Trying to throw slider after slider on JA all over the track to no avail. Finally with 3 laps to go Allard began to defend that move, thus opening the high side of the track just enough for Becker to stick his nose in. On the White Flag lap Becker drove around the outside of Allard in turns 1 and 2. The two would then drag race down the back straightaway. Entering turn 3 though Becker drifted a little high and allowed Allard to get the advantage he needed to pick up the victory. BJ Martin out of Orland, Ca. drove a stellar race and came home in the 3rd position. Mason Moore started 9th and drove up to a solid 4th place finish. While Brad Bumgarner started 10th and rounded out the top 5 with a strong 5th place run. Jonathan Allard was the only driver to break into the sub 12 second bracket in qualifying with a time of 11.831. Tonight though we utilized a group qualifying format for the Sprint Cars to help preserve the track some for the rest of the evenings events. Heat Race Victories were claimed by Keith Bloom Jr. of Anderson, Ca. And Kenny Allen out of Chico.
The Permazyme Wingless Sprint Cars put on quite a show early on in the race as Johnny Burns led the opening part of the Main Event until he clipped the white tire in turn one and also collected the E85 of Nathan Johnson ending both drivers nights prematurely. The fight for the lead in this one was fierce between the 1 of Terry Schank Jr. and the 1jr of Tim Sherman Jr. Ultimately Schank would take the lead and hang on to pick up his 25th career victory at the Silver Dollar Speedway. Sherman finished a solid 2nd and will retain the Points Lead in the Division. Don Emery finished 3rd after leading during the middle part of the race. Dustin Thompson and Tony Richards would round out the top five. Heat Race Victories were claimed by Terry Schank Jr. and Tim Sherman Jr.
Lady Luck was on Phil Marino's side tonight as "The Thrill" picked up his 52nd career victory at the speedway since 1999. Jake Vantol led the early stages of the race until a mid-race yellow flag when Vantol's car unexpectedly shut off and would not re-fire. Once Marino was in the lead he pulled away to the victory. Brent Lawrence drove a great race to come home in the 2nd position. Mike Slightom finished 3rd, and Chris Warner was scored 4th. After crossing the line 2nd, it was determined he jumped a restart and was moved back 2 positions. Warner though deserves a lot of credit as he went a lap down early in the race. Drove through the field to get back on the lead lap and finish in the 4th spot. Kevin Lesch brought the Chico VW #27 home in the 5th spot. Heat Race Victories were claimed by Chris Warner and Kevin Lesch.
Brian Compton completed the "Clean Sweep" of the evening in the Hobby Stock division. Compton won his heat race which put him in the Inaugural Trophy Dash for the Division. He went on to win the Trophy Dash, than Dominated the Main Event and picked up the win there as well. Loren Dreiss had a strong run and finished in the 2 slot, Clinton Earl came across in the 3rd position, while Fred Friermood and David Pierce rounded out the top five. Heat Race Victories were claimed by Brian Compton and Loren Dreiss.
The Silver Dollar Speedway welcomed the BCRA Midget Lites to the track this evening. 12 drivers checked in with young Logan Seavey picking up his first career win at the Famed Silver Dollar Speedway. In only his 4th start in a Midget Lite Seavey won his 2nd Main Event of his young career in the division. Logan had to hold off a hard charge by Brian Corso who finished a close 2nd, Bradley Dillard was strong this evening finishing in the 3rd spot, with Hunter Kinney and Craig Holsted rounding out the top five. Heat Race Victories were claimed by Bradley Dillard and Marcus Smith.
