It's a Hot Winter in Chico
CHICO, CA (6-6-14) -Â Ryan Winter melted away the competition Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Winter was the dominate car and won the lengthy Dwarf Car 20-lap main event. Winter started deep in the field to make things even that more impressive when the 20-laps ended. A total of 19 Dwarf Cars competed during the 2nd Annual David Tarter Memorial. Temperatures sky-rocketed above 100 degrees on Friday night and the drivers should be commended during those extreme conditions.
Ray Smith and Bryan Bender started on the front row. However, it was second row starting driver Scott Dahlgren who shot out into the lead. Dahlgren showed the rest of the field the fastest away around the slicked quarter-mile race track. Doug Martin moved into the second spot but on lap seven spun into the infield after contact with Jeremy Blackshere. Kevin Bender was soon the leader and looked to add another trophy from the Silver Dollar Speedway to his collection. However, the champion driver slowed on the front stretch and eventually pulled off the track.
On the restart, Blackshere received a tap from another driver and he too spun into the infield. From this moment on the main event dragged on with numerous cautions. In between the restarts Winter took advantage of field being bottled up and continued to move his way towards the front. On lap nine Winter made the winning move. Once he was up front there was going to be no challengers capable of passing him. Later in the race Bobby Wilson moved into the second spot. Wilson did a solid job to hold down the second spot at the finish. Blackshere did an amazing job to work his way back through the field and finish third. Dahlgren finished in the fourth spot. Bryan Bender rounded out the top five.
Blackshere started on the pole position for heat race one and went on to win the eight lap event. Reece Wilson also started on the pole for heat race number two and went on to win his eight lap heat race. After warm-ups the Dwarf Cars parked on the infield and once the National Anthem was over, the drivers threw Frisbee's into the stands for the fans.
