Loren Chitwood Wins Fair Enduro
CHICO, CA (5-24-14) -Â The Silver Dollar Fair crowd was treated to a dominating performance on Saturday night as Loren Chitwood captured his first 200-lap Enduro victory at Chico. Of the 14 cars that started, Chitwood was the only driver who never visited the pit area over the duration of the event. "I've been coming to the race for a long time now and was never able to win it," said Chitwood in victory lane. "I've won a lot of these races at various race tracks but it feels good to win at Chico." Chitwood's closest competitor was Sacramento's Brian Compton. The two-time and defending champion Compton suffered a flat tire near the half-way point of the race. This required a trip to the pit area to change the tire. When he came back out to continue his race, he was five laps down. Credit should be given to Compton who never gave up and finished two laps down. Travis Holcomb was a steady competitor on Saturday night. He never gave up during the endurance race and finished third. Holcomb completed 186 laps. Shannon Collins had a few issues and finished in fourth. Two-time champion Gene Guinn was running up front for the majority of the race until contact with another driver sent him off the track and into the turn two crash wall. He escaped without injury but was done for the race. He was officially scored in the fifth spot.
Jake Vantol won the best appearing car contest and the world famous outhouse race. Vantol picked up a cool trophy and $100 in cash from promoter Dennis Gage.
Finish: Loren Chitwood 200 laps, Brian Comption (198), Travis Holcomb(186), Shannon Collins(166), Gene Guinn(156), Ron Wills(120), Wes Brown Jr., Scott Longmire, Jake Vantol, David Papst, Jay Galvin, Travis Moore, Wyatt Brown.
