After thrilling Show-Me Shootout, Lucas Oil Speedway takes week off before title chases resume

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- Following an epic USMTS Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout Presented by Foley Equipment, Lucas Oil Speedway is taking a weekend off before the home stretch of the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series.

Every point will be precious in at least three of the four divisions when championship chases resume on August 18 for TA/Petro Fan Appreciation Night Presented by The Ozarks CW/O-Zone.

"It's hard to believe that we're down to two more races before we determine season champions in the Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said. "We've had some tremendous racing this season in our weekly classes and it's going to be fun to watch the championship battles play out."

Fans also can look forward to food and drink specials all night long when action resumes on Aug. 18. The Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds will headline the action with a special 25-lap, $1,000-to-win feature.

That also is the only division in which there is significant separation in the points chase. Six-time feature winner Darron Fuqua of Mayetta, Kansas - who nearly pulled off the win against national-touring stars at the Show-Me Shootout - holds a 98-point lead over four-time reigning track champion Jeff Cutshaw.

Championship battles remain wide open in the other classes. In the Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models, Aaron Marrant of Richmond holds a five-point lead over Johnny Fennewald with Kaeden Cornell just 20 behind. JC Morton of Springfield remains atop the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods by 13 points over Taylor Moore and 38 ahead of Kris Jackson. In the Big O Tires Street Stocks, Waynesville's David Hendrix leads Brian Schutt by just 21 points.

Also coming up at the Aug. 15 program will be Show-Me Vintage Racers doing a car show on the Midway and a-10 lap exhibition race after intermission just before the feature races. Visit smvr.net for more information about the group.

Last weekend saw Stormy Scott win the 9th annual USMTS Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout, emerging from a four-car battle for the lead in the final laps. Twin brother Johnny Scott was second with Fuqua third and Rodney Sanders fourth.

Meanwhile, Kris Jackson captured the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mod feature and first-time Lucas Oil Speedway visitor Danny Womack earned the Big O Tires Street Stocks win.

Last weekend also saw the 2nd annual Red White Blue & Que professional barbecue event at Lucas Oil Speedway. Smoke This BBQ-Mo out of Kansas City won the grand championship in a 37-team field, with Fergolicous BBQ from Gardner, Kansas, earning runner-up honors.
