Busy stretch coming up at Lucas Oil Speedway

AMENDED By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- In what might be described as the calm before a frenetic month, Lucas Oil Speedway takes a scheduled break this weekend.

"We're looking forward to one of the most-exciting stretches of the season just ahead," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said. "It's hard to believe that it's already into August and we're going to crown track champions soon, but there's a lot of action ahead."

Here's what to know over the next month:

Weekly Series hits home stretch: When action resumes on Aug. 19 as TA/Petro along with the Ozarks CW & Ozarks Zone Present Fan Appreciation Night, there will be food and drink specials all night long. It also will be a pivotal evening as the chase for Big Adventure RV Weekly Racing Series championships charges toward the finish line.

With just two weeks remaining in the regular season, three of the four divisions are separated by just a handful of points. Jason Purlsey leads Jeff Cutshaw by 16 points in the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds, Andy Bryant is 21 clear of Shawn Strong in the Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods and Aaron Poe leads Johnny Fennewald by just seven points in the Warsaw Auto Marine & RV ULMA Late Models.

Meanwhile, Toby Ott is 86 points in front of Kenny Carroll in the Big O Tires Street Stocks chase.

The Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds will be featured on Aug. 19 with a special 25-lap, $750-to-win main event.

2017 champions will be crowned: What happens on Aug. 19 will set the stage for the Weekly Racing Series Season Championship on Aug. 26. Track champions will be crowned in all four divisions on Bill Roberts Chevrolet-Buick Season Championship Night Presented by KYOO-Your Country 99 & KPOW-Power 97.7.

In addition, it is Public Safety Appreciation Night as all Police, Fire and Rescue Personnel are admitted free with ID.

Drag boats with a VIP experience: The 7th annual Diamond Drag Boat Nationals featuring the stars of the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series is set for Sept. 1-3. There's a new twist this year with the all-inclusive VIP "Top Eliminator Club" available for all three-days on "Lake Lucas" with prime viewing from a designated shaded area near the starting line.

It will include amenities to make the weekend at the drag boat races a one-of-a-kind experience. Space is limited for the first 100 people to reserve in advance by calling admissions director Nichole McMillan at (417) 282-5984 or via email at Nichole@lucasoilspeedway.com.

The three-day ticket is priced for $179 and, in addition to admission and a seat in the shaded viewing area, it will include: A continental-style breakfast, lunch and light hors d'oeuvres each day; two non-alcohol drink tickets per day (soda or energy drink); two alcohol drink tickets per day (beer, wine or basic mixed drinks); unlimited free water; dedicated cash bar with hostess and a gift bag.

Make it a Labor Day Weekend Saturday doubleheader: Action will not be limited to the water on Labor Day Weekend. The Lucas Oil MLRA Dirt Series returns on Saturday, Sept. 2 for the Larry Phillips Memorial, a race named in honor of the short-track racing legend and NASCAR Hall of Fame nominee from Springfield.

The Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods join the Late Models in action, running for a $500 first prize. Fans buying tickets to the Diamond Drag Boat Nationals, either on Saturday for via the Top Eliminator Club or three-day pass, will be admitted free to the dirt track.

Lots more to follow: Other events to mark on the calendar include the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling Nationals (Sept. 15-16), the 7th annual ASCS Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial (Sept. 21-23), AMA Pro-Am Motocross on the Off-Road track (Sept. 29-30, Oct. 1), the MLRA Fall Nationals and Street Stock Big Buck 50 Presented by Whitetail Trophy Hunt (Oct. 6-7) and the Monster Truck Nationals Eve of Destruction (Oct. 21).
