Pro BBQ part of USMTS weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway

By Lyndal Scranton (Wheatland, MO) -- Many of the nation's best barbecue teams will return to Lucas Oil Speedway next summer during a big weekend in which America's premier dirt-track modified series will be featured.

The 2nd annual Red White Blue & Que, a Kansas City Barbecue Society-sanctioned event, will be held on Aug. 4-5. Professional teams from throughout the region will set up on the midway of Lake Lucas and compete for prize money of at least $5,000.

"We're excited to have the barbecue teams returning for an even bigger and better second Red White Blue & Que," Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson said. "Last year's inaugural event was well received by everyone and we're looking forward to growing it bigger in year two - with a great night of racing also on tap."

The 9th annual USMTS Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout Presented by Foley Equipment will bring the popular open-wheel stars back to the Lucas Oil Speedway dirt track on Saturday, Aug. 4. Big O Tires Street Stocks and Ozark Golf Cars USRA B-Mods also will be on the program.

Meanwhile, the barbecue competition again will pay tribute to the Military and Veterans. Like last year, proceeds will go to TheWarriorsJourney.org and Korean War Veterans of the Ozarks. Last year's event raised a little over $1,000 for the organizations.

The inaugural Red White Blue & Que attracted 31 teams with Thump & Strum BBQ from Independence, Missouri winning the Grand Championship and Gettin' Basted from Branson earning Reserve Grand honors. Gettin' Basted went on to finish third in the final KCBS National Team of the Year standings.

Fans coming to the races on Saturday night are invited to visit the barbecue teams at the Lake Lucas midway and ask them questions about cooking. The teams will have a "Just For Fun" competition on Saturday, with a celebrity panel of USMTS drivers serving as judges on the dirt-track midway at approximately 5 p.m.

There also will be a Kids Q competition on the Lake Lucas midway from approximately 6-7 p.m. The official KCBS competition, which is not open to the public, will be held on Sunday.

Red White Blue & Que is a Missouri State Championship points event and a qualifying event for the American Royal World Championships and Jack Daniels Invitational, two of barbecue's majors later in the year.

The 2018 season begins with the weekly racing series opener on April 7, followed by the 5th annual Lucas Oil MLRA Spring Nationals on April 13-14.
