Wilmot Raceway Update
The Kenosha County Fair's Wilmot Raceway has much in place for what should be a great 2020 racing season. We are no different than most however, and are on hold as the world fights the COVID-19 virus. The safety of everyone is our primary concern at the moment, and when government officials give us the green light to move forward, we'll do our best to be ready and get cars on the track as soon as possible. As it stands today, Wisconsin is on a large gathering ban with only essential businesses operating thru April 24th. Our season opener is scheduled for April 25th. We'll post weekly updates as we learn additional information and can better project actual dates for practices and opening day. We would love to have cars on the track April 25th!
What we can tell everyone is that much has been going on at Wilmot Raceway over the past several weeks. The race track has had all new lights installed, including LED lighting on our two large infield poles, and new poles with LED's have been installed down the backchute and in turn 4. The track crew has been on the track and done some grading, and from a March perspective all is looking really good. The infield grass that was planted last year appears to be growing, some new drainage work has been completed near our restroom building creating a better concourse/midway area for fans, and a the old souvenir building (located across from the concession stand and next to the restroom building) has had work begun that is transforming the building into an actual raceway bar. We've met with the Salem Lakes Fire Dept and had a great meeting regarding emergency type situations and we'll be even more prepared. We've been working on some promotion ideas too, and fans can look forward to food and drink specials including a nightly rotating beer special. We're in the process of getting a new website through MyRacePass, which will allow us to utilize some additional options both racers and fans can enjoy. We've been working with IRA and we have some cool race formats for the wingLESS class that we'll be announcing soon too, that will definitely be something everyone WILL BE excited about, and specials for our other core classes too. We even have a couple of Fireworks shows planned, and a true wheel standing, car crushing, New & Improved "HIGH ENERGY" Monster Truck (half time show) during Friday's KCF race too.
Thanks to the dedication of many of our staff, with the support of the KCF, Wilmot Raceway will be prepared to get the 2020 season started as soon as humanly possible once we have the go ahead, and look forward to providing everyone with a more efficient and unique racing experience. We invite everyone to come and enjoy our many offseason improvements. Wilmot Raceway is the home of the countries fastest growing sprint car series, IRA's AutoMeter Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Series. And is the home of the IRA Lightning Sprints, as well as a solid field of some of the best Modifieds in the region, fastest Street Stocks, and exciting 4-cylinder Bandits. And no other track in Wisconsin, or region for that matter can boast of a better slate of "Special Events" which include the Bumper To Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints (May 9, June 13, Aug 8, Aug 22), the IRA / All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Challenge FRIDAY May 29, the UMP Late Model Summer Nationals Hell Tour SUNDAY June 21, the Badger Midgets June 27, the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars July 11, and the "Wildman Watson" Dirt Kings Late Models on Sept 12.
We encourage everyone to be safe as we all fight through these unprecedented times, and look forward to seeing everyone as soon as possible.
