Inside Line Promotions – LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (May 29, 2019) – Eight laps separated the Swindell SpeedLab sprint car team from its first career World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series win last Monday at Lawrenceburg Speedway.

Christopher Bell led the first 27 laps of the Memorial Day Spectacle presented by KOI Auto Parts before a late-race incident relegated him to a 22nd-place result.

“We did our own thing and the car drove really well,” team co-owner Kevin Swindell said. “I feel like if we don’t have that last yellow we had it covered at that point. It was a shame he made one bad corner the whole time and it set that whole thing up. Everyone else behind him got to make big mistakes. The only time he had a little slip (Kyle) Larson was close enough to make something happen.”

Bell was on point throughout the night, qualifying fifth quickest before placing second in a heat race. He then won the dash to garner the pole position for the A Main. It was a strong performance on the heels of a great finish the previous night at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, where the team raced with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions.

“We weren’t great to begin with,” Swindell said. “We got there expecting it to be soft and wet. We had to stay in the infield after hot laps. I couldn’t do enough off the four wheeler to fix it for qualifying and that got us behind.”

Bell timed in 12th quickest overall and fifth in his group. He then gained a position to finish fourth in a heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the sixth row for the main event.

“We set up to run 40 laps and be ready to race at the end,” Swindell said. “We were terrible at the beginning. The pace was really slow because everybody was so freed up. The race track got to where you could skate across the center in the beginning. Guys would hang and if you had to get out of the gas it’d cost you a lot of time. We rolled off the end and then came from 18th. It took us until halfway to get enough wing speed. The further up in the order you get the faster the pace is. That helps and then you get guys that start to spread out.”

The second half of the race Bell had one of the fastest race cars and he worked his way to a fourth-place finish, which marked the team’s fourth top five this season.

Hunter Schuerenberg will be behind the wheel this Thursday through Saturday during the COMP Cams Sprint Car World Championship at Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio.

“He did a good job last year there,” Swindell said. “We want to get qualified and get a good start. If we do that I don’t see any reason why we can’t race to win.”
