Mingus Partnering With Moore After Injuries Force Him to Hang Up Helmet

Inside Line Promotions – HURON, Ohio (Nov. 14, 2019) – The old saying when one door closes another one opens has never been more true than for Kevin Mingus.
Mingus, whose career moved from asphalt to dirt racing, was injured in a sprint car crash last July. The back injury was aggravated when he attempted a comeback, leaving him questioning his future involvement in the sport he loves. He was diagnosed with Piriformis Syndrome, a neuromuscular disorder that is caused when the piriformis muscle compresses the sciatic nerve. He also has a herniated disc.
“I’m still pretty laid up and they have to decide if I need surgery or not,” the 25-year-old said. “Needless to say I had to make the decision to hang up the helmet for good. I started racing 14 years ago on asphalt and three years ago moved to dirt and in 2018 took on owning our own team. This was not an easy decision, but the more I thought about it the more I knew I wanted to stay involved.”
After his injury in July Mingus attended local races as a spectator at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, and at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, where he had competed in the 305c.i. winged sprint car division the last three years.
“I have gotten to know so many people in the sport and have so many great friendships,” he said. “One guy I always respected because he basically did it all by himself is Brandon Moore. He drove the car, worked on the car, took care of the car all week and is always fast and running up front. We talked and I’m pleased that he will drive the No. Z10 in 2020.”
Moore, who is a 24-year-old from Clyde, Ohio, has been driving a 305 sprint car for six years and scored his first feature win a couple of years ago at Fremont Speedway.
“I’m really excited to team up with Kevin and his family,” Moore said. “We will use his equipment, but I will keep one complete car of my own for backup if needed and maybe do some non-wing racing with it when the opportunity arises. This takes so much pressure and stress off of me. I don’t have to work all day and come home and work all night in the shop. It will be nice not to have to call all the shots.”
Mingus is also relieved he no longer has as much stress and can concentrate on working with Moore.
“I put a lot of pressure on myself to get better and it was frustrating not getting the results as quickly as I would have liked,” Mingus said. “It was becoming more of a chore than what it was worth. Now I only have to worry about working with my dad on prepping the car with the help of Brandon.”
Mingus said the team will chase the championships at both Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway along with the title for the KS Sales and Service Attica Fremont Championship Series Presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales.
“I told Brandon we are going trophy hunting in 2020,” he said. “I can’t wait to stand in Victory Lane with him and our team.”
Mingus and Moore said most of the sponsors on each of their individual teams have agreed to come on board for the new venture in 2020.
“Kevin has some very loyal sponsors as do I and we are thrilled they will support us next season,” Moore said. “Now we just need to get moving in the shop and get everything in place to win races.”
