Pokorski Motorsports completes holiday weekend double dip

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 5, 2017 – Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team celebrated the Fourth of July Independence Day holiday weekend just as you would expect a dedicated Sprint Car racing team would, by entering a pair of events at two different tracks and with two different series.

On Saturday, July 1, the team took part in a Midwest Sprint Car Association/Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car event at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.

The following night the team switched gears and joined the Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series at the 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, Wis. on Sunday, July 2.

Saturday’s event at Plymouth nearly fell victim to rain as two rain showers drenched the track and pit area late in the afternoon as teams were filing into the pit area.

The PDTR staff worked diligently to get the track into respectable shape and after a 30-minute delay, the night got under way with a stout field of 28 MSA Sprint Cars separated into four heat races.

After lining up fourth in the fourth Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski drove his backup J&J car past Tom Kreutz to move into third place on the opening lap of the 10-lap event.

Pokorski held the position over the final nine laps to finish third behind race winner Kurt Davis and runner-up Kenjay Fiedler. His third-place showing in the heat race was good enough to qualify Pokorski for the A-main event, where he started 10th.

On the drop of the green flag for the 25-lap main event. Pokorski advanced to ninth by lap 3. Following a caution flag, the 2014 MSA Masters Series champion restarted eighth.

After another caution period resulted in further attrition, Pokorski restarted seventh and looked poised to challenge for a top-five finish. However, the engine began to stumble over the final 10 laps, which eventually relegated 25-year veteran to a 12th-place finish.

“The track turned out to be very nice considering the weather issues earlier in the day,” Pokorski said. “We’re pretty sure we had another magneto go bad during the feature. It was disappointing to have that happen, but it is something we can deal with. The good part is that we were able to finish the race.”

On Sunday night, the Pokorski Motorsports team made the short drive from its shop in Whitelaw to the 141 Speedway to compete in an IRA event.

The evening served as a test-and-tune session for the team’s primary 2016 Maxim car, which suffered engine woes at Angell Park on June 11 and again at Plymouth on June 17, forcing Pokorski to scratch from both events.

Competing against the high-horsepower 410 cubic-inch IRA cars, Pokorski finished ninth after starting 11th in the first heat race and wound up ninth after starting 10th in the B main.

Despite missing a transfer to the A main by three spots in the B, Pokorski was pleased with the performance of Maxim car, which has been on and off the track with various mechanical woes so far this year.

“On Sunday night, we were pretty happy with the way things went and certainly thrilled to have figured out our issues with that car,” Pokorski said. “We would have liked to have made the A to get a few more laps and try some different set up options, but overall we were able to accomplish what we had set out to do there.”

The team is looking forward to another doubleheader weekend starting this Friday, July 7, when the MSA makes its first and only appearance of the 2017 season at the giant half-mile Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam for the Harry Nietzel Tribute Night.

At last year’s July event at Dodge County, Pokorski finished second in the A-main, which turned out to be his best main event showing of the season.
In addition, NASCAR legend and multi-time USAC Sprint Car, Midget and Silver Crown champion Tony Stewart will be competing in the IRA portion of the program.

Hot laps are slated to start at 6 p.m. with qualifying to follow. Along with the MSA and IRA Sprint Cars, the Dirt Kings Late Model Series will also be on the card.

“I am looking forward to Dodge County this Friday night for the Harry Nietzel Tribute event,” Pokorski said. “It should be a great night of Sprint Car racing. We’ve had reasonable success the last few times we’ve been there. I didn’t used to be crazy about the place, but it’s starting to grow on me.”

On Saturday night, the team will return to The Plymouth Dirt Track for the midseason championship night of racing, which will get under way at 6 p.m.

Pokorski Motorsports Sponsor Showcase - Acme Armature Works Inc.

Pokorski Motorsports will like to welcome Acme Armature Works Inc. of Sheboygan as a new sponsor for the 2017 racing season.

Acme Armature Works Inc. debuted last September when Chad Bahrs purchased Sheboygan Armature Works. Located at 2727 North 21st St. in Sheboygan, Acme Armature Works specializes in electrical and servo motor repair and sales for industrial and commercial customers.

Bahrs, who resides in Elkhart Lake with his wife Jamie and three children, describes Acme Armature Works as a one-stop electrical apparatus service shop.

"We specialize in all types of electric motors, spindles, servo motors, and electro-mechanical devices for industrial, commercial and agricultural customers," Bahrs said. "We are a factory-authorized warranty service center for a wide range of manufactures. We also offer value-added services such as an in-house machine shop, computerized precision dynamic balancing, vibration analysis, predictive/preventative maintenance, welding and light fabricating."

When it comes to diagnosing problems, providing proper repair analysis and delivering top-notch service for servo motors, Acme's repair team boasts over 100 years of combined experience working with a wide selection of complex motor systems.

"We specialize in fast, accurate repair, rewind and re-manufacture of all brands of servo motors," Bahrs said. "During our repair process, every encoder or all feedback devices are checked for proper signals and alignment."

Acme Armature Works is PDTA (Power Transmission Distributors Association) and EASA (Electrical Apparatus Service Association) certified. In addition, Acme recently earned the Recommended Practice for the Repair of Rotating Electrical Apparatus (ANSI/EASA AR100-2015) accreditation.

Bahrs says Acme's ability to provide unique in-shop services sets it apart among its competition.

"I think the fact that we do balancing, machine work and welding in our shop sets us apart," Bahrs said. "We have the ability to do blower wheel balancing, provide a wide range of machine work and weld cast iron, which you don't see in every other shop."

Acme Armature Works also sells many makes and models of electric and servo motors.
