Late misfortune spoils solid run for Pokorski Motorsports
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) August 23, 2017 – Racing is a sport where a split second can be the deciding factor between a strong finish and a ride on the back of a tow truck, as Paul Pokorski and his Pokorski Motorsports team found out in 360 Sprint Car A-main action at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. Saturday, Aug. 19.
With 25 PDTR Sprint Cars on hand, Pokorski lined up seventh in the second heat race. On the opening lap, the 25-year veteran worked his way past Nich Melis to slip into sixth. Two laps later, Pokorski dove low in turn two to get by Josh Teunissen and secure fifth place.
By virtue of passing points, Pokorski transferred to the A main where he started 12th. After riding in the 13th spot in the first half of the race, the 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion got a good run after a lap 12 restart to sweep past Will Gerrits, John Krebsbach and Chris Clayton and move into 10th on lap 13.
Utilizing the high groove, Pokorski powered around Kevin Karnitz in turn one on lap 21 to assume ninth. Two laps later, the caution flew again when Danny Schlafer and Bill Taylor collided on the backstretch.
After restarting in seventh, Pokorski was dueling for position just outside of the top five when disaster struck in the final turn of the last lap of the race. As several cars jockeyed for position coming to the checkered flag, Pokorski got stuck in a five-car melee coming off of turn four just yards from the finish line.
The accident relegated the team to a 17th-place finish and produced plenty of damaged parts in the process.
“The car felt pretty good in the heat race, as well as in the A main,” Pokorski said. “I was pretty happy with the run we were having in the A main and pretty disappointed that it all got messed up in the last corner. A lot of stuff got wrecked, but luckily it doesn’t appear that there is any frame damage. There will be some extra work this week, but we got a good jump on that and we will be ready for next Saturday at Plymouth to try it all over again.”
Only five more races remain on the Pokorski Motorsports 2017 schedule, including four 360 Sprint Car events at The Plymouth Dirt Track.
Pokorski will return to The Plymouth Dirt Track this Saturday, Aug. 26. Racing begins at 6 p.m.
