T. Holmes, I. Sanders, D. Bloom, And Drake Win On Night Two Of Freedom Cup
Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway hosted their second of three nights of racing for the 2022 Freedom Cup. The famed ¼-mile oval had four divisions on tap for the Sunday, July 3rd bout. Classes included the Todd's Auto Body Limited Sprints, Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods presented by Royalty Core Custom Grille & Truck Parts, Street Stocks, and Mach-1 Racing Solutions IMCA Sport Compacts.
Tanner Holmes was the driver standing at the top of the podium when the checkered flag dropped. Racing for car owner Brian Crockett, the Jacksonville driver parked it on the front stretch. Coos Bay teenager Austin Sause was second, followed by Johnny Burke, of Eagle Point, in third. The balance of the top five consisted of Carly Holmes, also from Jacksonville, and Shady Cove's David Marble in fourth and fifth.
Isaac Sanders took care of business in the Friesen Performance IMCA Northern SportMods presented by Royalty Core Custom Grille & Truck Parts. The Brookings native parked his mount in victory lane for the second time at Cottage Grove Speedway. In the Mike Cummins-owned car, Coburg's Kevin Williamson beat out Matt Sanders, from Brookings, for second. Salem teenager Trevor Points was fourth, while Dalton Bloom of Lebanon earned fifth. Veneta veteran Kevin Ropchan won the consolation feature early in the night.
Dalton Bloom, pulling double duty, captured the winner's check in the Street Stocks. Adam Applebee of Eugene posted second with Jasper's Andrew Langan in the Josh Linville-fielded entry, grabbing third. Cottage Grove chauffeur Eric Freeman and Chloe Van Sant, from Eugene, were fourth and fifth.
Scarlett Drake tamed the field in the Mach-1 Racing Solutions IMCA Sport Compacts. The Salem racer won her first race of the year at CGS this season. Jack Vicari of Eugene was the runner-up, followed by Sutherlin standout Burnie Bryant in third. Cottage Grove's Chris Pierce, racing for car owner Randy Kuhl, ended the night in fourth while Bruce Miller, from Oakland, placed fifth.
The 2022 Freedom Cup will completely wrap up on Independence Day, Monday, July 4th. The night will all be capped off with a massive fireworks display. All four divisions will return to action. For more information, log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com.
