Alberding Wins ISCS Opener At Cottage Grove; Braaten, Osborne, And Bryant Also Get Wins

Cottage Grove, Oregon- Despite occasional showers throughout the day, Cottage Grove Speedway managed to get all the racing in on Friday, May 7th. Four classes were on the card, including two Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing divisions. The Interstate Sprint Car Series, Royalty Core IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and IMCA Sport Compacts were all in attendance.
In the Interstate Sprint Car Series main event, Camden Robustelli set a rapid pace early. In the T.J. Winningham-owned machine, the Medford racer remained in the position for most of the race. Unfortunately, five stoppages occurred in the feature, which meant Camden had to deal with many restarts.
On one of the final restarts, Kyle Alberding rocketed his way to the front and obtained the top place position on lap sixteen. Alberding of Roseburg remained in the first place position the rest of the distance to win his first career ISCS main event. He is the twelfth different victor in series history and the eighth driver to win with the tour at Cottage Grove.
Camden Robustelli managed to finish second with third going to Graham, Washington youngster Jordi Meese. The rest of the top five was made up by Roseburg racers Brian Boswell and Steven Snawder, in fourth and fifth.
For the Royalty Core IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Trevor Points got to the front at the drop of the initial green flag. Points from Salem was the trailblazer until lap seven when Jorddon Braaten passed him for the lead.
However, the pass would be negated as there was a caution before the field completed the lap. Braaten of Central Point successfully made it back to front on the restart to grab the position on lap eight.
Jorddon Braaten took care of the business the rest of the way to win for the first time in 2021 at Cottage Grove Speedway. It is his second victory of the current campaign, but the first time he has done so in KMJ Performance Oregon State action. Albany’s Aaron Bloom ended the event second, with Trevor Point taking home third. Roseburg pilots Doug Coffman and Steve Hopkins were fourth and fifth. Ray Comer Jr., from Springfield, was the winner of the B Main.
For the Street Stocks, it was all about Graig Osborne. The Creswell chauffeur got to the point right off the bat. He stayed there despite having to deal with three yellows. Graig now has three wins at Cottage Grove Speedway this season.
Of Springfield and in the Jake Mayden owned mount, Daniel Ray was the runner-up with Junction City’s Troy Chamberlain grabbing third. Keizer youngster Anthony Prather hit the line fourth with fifth place credited to Bob Bloom of Coburg.
In IMCA Sport Compact action, Michael Cockerline took over the top spot despite many incidents before the contingent of cars completed the first lap. The Dexter driver inhabited first place in the first five laps before Dexter’s Bradley Martin got around him. Martin remained the trailblazer for a bit of time before the race intensified in the last few circuits.
Sutherlin’s Burnie Bryant maneuvered his way around Martin to capture the position on lap nineteen. Bryant stayed there until the checkered flag dropped to earn his second win of the year at CGS and in KMJ Performance Oregon State competition. Bradley Martin was second while third went to Adam Keggan, from Eugene. Cottage Grove’s Kerry Cooper placed fourth, followed by fifth, finishing Andrew Langan, from Jasper in the Randy Kuhl-owned car.
Cottage Grove Speedway returns to racing on Saturday, May 8th. Classes on the card include Late Models, Royalty Core IMCA Northern Sport Mods, Street Stocks, and IMCA Sport Compacts.
