Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway would host the fifth round of the 2018 Wild West Modified Shootout on Tuesday, June 26th. It would be the second consecutive night of racing at the famed ¼-mile clay oval with the tour. Thirty-seven entries would be in the pit area from the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, and North Carolina as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Jesse Williamson got to the front at the start of the main event and was looking to make it two straight wins. The Eugene veteran would set a rapid pace and seemed to be the class of the field. An extremely long thirty-three lap green flag run would have lapped traffic come into the mix. Danny Lauer, of Nipomo, California, reeled in Williamson and looked to challenge but couldn’t quite get underneath the leader.

A lap thirty-three caution would regroup the field one last time. On the restart Williamson went to the bottom to keep Lauer in check. However, Ethan Dotson would toss the dice one last time on the high side during the ensuing restart. Williamson and Dotson would be side-by-side at the line coming to the white flag and battled it out on the final circuit. Dotson managed to motor his way in front and secure the top spot on the exit of turn two.

Ethan Dotson would become the fifth different winner in as many nights. The Bakersfield, California native, racing for Jim and Brian Wulfenstein, won his third career Wild West Modified Shootout victory and was the second time he has ever won at Cottage Grove with the series.

Jesse Williamson was a respectable second with Danny Lauer, via one of the consolation features, in third. Keizer’s John Campos placed fourth and Albany youngster Bricen James was fifth. Danny Lauer, Hines native Derrick Young, and Portland’s Joey Tanner, racing for Grey and Kersey Ferrando, were the three consolation feature winners.

The Wild West Modified Shootout heads to Sunset Speedway Park, in Banks, on Wednesday, June 27th. Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 4:00, Time Trials begin at 5:30, with Racing kicking off at 6:30. Tickets are $13.00 for Adults and Seniors/Military/Juniors (13-17) $10.00.
