Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway hosted the fourth round of the 2018 Wild West Modified Shootout. The historic ¼-mile clay oval had a total of forty entries signed in the pits. The states of Oregon, Washington, California, Nevada, and North Carolina were represented as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia.

Jesse Williamson would seize the early race lead and took off right from the get go in the feature. The Eugene chauffeur would be tracked down and passed on lap fourteen by Bricen James. The Albany youngster, James, would lose the lead the following lap and again Williamson paced the field.

Shortly after a lap twenty-one restart Bricen James made a pass Williamson again and the two would do battle hard the rest of the way. Williamson reclaimed the coveted top spot on lap twenty-six and held off James at the line to win his first race of the week. It is his eleventh career triumph with the WWMS and the third time he has done so at Cottage Grove.

Bricen James was a respectable second followed by Keizer’s John Campos in third. Coming from one of the consolation features to finish fourth was Grey Ferrando, of Stayton, while Cottage Grove native Curtis Towns was fifth. Three consolation features were ran with Ferrando, Bakersfield, California’s Ethan Dotson, and Nipomo, California driver Danny Lauer the winners.

The Wild West Modified Shootout will remain at Cottage Grove Speedway for a second straight night on Tuesday, June 26th. Pit Gates open at 2:00 PM, Front Gates 5:00 PM, with Racing beginning at 6:30 PM.
