Cottage Grove, Oregon- Saturday, May 26th, would be an exciting evening of racing at the Cottage Grove Speedway. It would be the first night, of two, for the 2018 Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic. Classes on the card were 360 Sprints and the Quality RV Repair Hornets.

Kyle Miller, of Salem, would set a torrid pace at the drop of the green flag in the 360 Sprint feature. Miller, racing for car owner Kady Adelman, would slice through lapped traffic and seemed to be on his way to victory lane but three cautions would keep the field bunched up.

Kyle Miller would duke it out with Burlington, Washington’s Jason Solwold in the final laps with Solwold making it to the front in the closing stages. Solwold would remain in first place the rest of the distance to earn the victory for himself and car owners Mike Anderson and Monica Baca.

Kyle Miller was a respectable second followed by third finishing Chase Goetz, of Snohomish, Washington. The rest of the top five would consist of Central Point native Garen Linder, in fourth, while grabbing fifth was Logan Forler, out of Boise, Idaho.

Jason Solwold and Chase Goetz were the two fast timers in their respected groups while Kyle Miller won the trophy dash. Heat race wins went to Cottonwood, California’s Lucas Ashe, Logan Forler, Enumclaw, Washington chauffeur Henry Van Dam, and Sutherlin teenager Cooper Desbiens. Jake Waddell, of Roseburg, was victorious in the consolation feature.

In the Quality RV Repair Hornets the main event would go nonstop. Graig Osborne, of Creswell, would rocket out to the lead at the start. Osborne would have comfortable for much of the race until the closing laps when challengers would be hot on his heels. Osborne would hold of the rest of the competition to win his first main event of the season.

Josh Corley, now residing in Oakridge, was a very close second with Jasper’s Eric Ashley in third. Fourth went to Gene Ashley, also of Jasper, and Eugene’s Joe Maricle completed the top five in fifth.

Josh Corley was fast time of the night and Eric Ashley won the trophy dash. Heat race wins went to Eric and Gene Ashley.

Cottage Grove Speedway concludes the 2018 Marvin Smith Memorial Grove Classic on Sunday, May 27th. 360 Sprints return for the big finale while Street Stocks will play the role of the support class. For more information log on to www.cottagegrovespeedway.com .
