Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway would have a packed grandstand and pit area for Ladies Night on Saturday, May 12th. The historic ¼-mile clay oval would have well over one-hundred entries among five classes. Divisions in action included the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints, Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, Dwarf Cars, and Old Timer Racing Association Hardtops.

Cooper Desbiens, of Sutherlin, would pace the field early in the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints. Junction City’s Shane Forte would make it around him on lap four only for Forte to get passed on lap five by Ricky Ashley. Ashley, of Thurston, would maintain the race lead, despite many stoppages and restarts, to win his first race of the season.

Kinzer Cox, from Cottage Grove, was second over third finishing Shane Forte. Harrisburg teenager Tyler Thompson placed fourth over Garen Linder, of Central Point, who was fifth in the T.J. Winningham entry. Roseburg native Steven Snawder won the consolation feature.

Randy Martin, from Eugene, would storm out in front of the pack in the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modified feature. Martin maintained the lead until lap two when Eugene veteran Paul Rea would make it around him. Rea stayed in the position for sometime before Steven Sturdevant got around him on the sixth circuit.

Sturdevant, out of Springfield, would pace the field but never truly developed a massive lead due to so many cautions occurring. Shortly after a restart Jake Mayden managed to get by Sturdevant for the coveted top spot. Mayden, also of Springfield, remained there the rest of the distance to get his first win of 2018.

Steven Sturdevant was second followed by Stayton’s Grey Ferrando, in third. Fourth place went to Aaron Sheelar, of Springfield, while grabbing fifth would be Cottage Grove native Tyler Smith.

In the Street Stocks R.C. Levin would get the party started by controlling the front of the field early. The Roseburg area driver would hold on until lap six when Junction City driver David Schmidt made it to the top. Schmidt would set a torrid pace however on lap eight he would suffer mechanical issues that would bring him to a halt. That would hand first place over to Andrew Langan.

Langan, of Jasper, would dominate the rest of the distance and go practically unchallenged. Crossing the wire it would be the third straight triumph for Langan and team.

Ray Bloom, of Cottage Grove, managed a second-place result over David Schmidt who recovered to third. Richard Clink, out of Eugene, got fourth while fifth finishing Kevin Ballard completed the top five.

Calvin Morton was dominate in the Dwarf Car feature. Morton, of Medford, occupied the front of the field on lap two after getting around Camden Robustelli. The two drivers would battle hard throughout the course of the main event. But it would be Morton parking it in victory lane.

Camden Robustelli, also of Medford, was second over third finishing Ryan Martinez, from Portland. The balance of the top five would consist of Hillsboro’s Jeremiah Hester, in fourth, and Josh Rodgers, from Longview, Washington, in fifth. Steve Walker won the B Main while getting the job done in the C Main was Bailey Bell.

Finally, the Old Time Racers Association Hardtops would occupy CGS for the first time this season. Roseburg’s Bill Trotter showed the way for the first eleven laps. Mark Mener, also of Roseburg, got past Trotter but Jamie Britton, from Wilbur, would make a bonsai last lap maneuver to get the win.

Mener was second followed by Bill Trotter in third. Sutherlin’s Greg Hickman was fourth over fifth finishing Dusty Trotter, of Roseburg.
