July 28th and 29th Race Recap

July 28th and 29th Race Recap
Another 2 day show at Cottage Grove Speedway brought big deals and bigger racing to town!
Things kicked off Friday night with a taste of things to come as the IMCA Sportmods and Open Comp Hornets put on a show for the fans who got into the stands for FREE!!
18 Sportmods were split into 2 quick James Heating and Air Conditioning Heat Races and per the IMCA format the fastest cars were at the back. Heat 1 had Matt Brown and Donnie Fain leading the pack. Matt Brown led for the first few laps before Art Hiatt got by him on lap 4 and lead until Jorddon Braaten made his way from 8th to the front to take the win. Travis Pruitt and Theran Trissell brought the field to green in Heat #2 but by lap 1 Mike Medel was in the lead and went on to win the race. There was a small field of fast cars in the open comp hornet heat and Joe Maricle and KC Scott did battle with Scott ultimately picking up the win.
Dot’s Trophy Shop Dashes put the fastest 4 drivers competing against each other for 4 quick laps and the trophies went to KC Scott and Jorddon Braaten
The Sportmod main event rolled onto the track and was a stacked field! Theran Trissell got the early lead, on lap 5 Mike Medel took it over and then gave it to Jorddon Braaten when he lost a motor. Braaten quickly moved thru lap traffic, lapping every car except the 2nd place of Art Hiatt. Theran Trissell was 3rd, Shawn Hand 4th and Buddy McHargue 5th.
The open comp hornet main went green to checkered and KC Scott finished with a clean sweep for the night followed by Tony Bloom, Scott Lehman, and Wayne Clink.
Saturday night the Open Comp Hornets and IMCA Sportmods returned and were joined by the Todd’s Auto Body and Street Stocks for a full night of action.
Quick qualifiers for the night were Josh Corley with a 18.402, Evan Britton with a 16.315, Art Hiatt with a 15.336, and Colin Baker with a 12.352.
James Heating and Air Conditioning Heat Race wins went to Joe Maricle in the open comp hornets, Evan Britton in the Street Stocks, Jorddon Braaten and Art Hiatt in the Sportmods, and kinzer Cox and Cooper Desbiens in the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints.
Dot’s Trophy Shop trophies would go home with Evan Britton, Mike Swaim, Tyler Thompson, and Art Hiatt.
Open comp Hornets ran a 20 lap main event and Joe Maricle took the checkered flag over Scott Lehman, Mike Swaim, James Mclure, and Bart Pulse. Hunter Bloom led most of the street stock race before Evan Britton made his way to the front and the 2 put on one heck of a show for quite a few laps before the hard racing spun Hunter Bloom and he spun in turn 4, Britton went on to win over Andrew Langan, Garrett Barth, Roy Moore, and Melissa Adams. Ricky Ashley and Tyler Thompson shared the front row for the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints. Thompson got to the line first and led all 25 laps, followed by Ashley, Raquel Ivie, Colin Baker, and Shane Forte. The IMCA Sportmods were the last race of the night with Ryan Pruitt and Chris Frisbie sharing the front row. Frisbie got to the front and went on to pick up the win over Daniel Ray who made a charge from 7th, Art Hiatt from 6th, Jayson Nelson from 8th and Buddy McHargue charging from 9th to 5th!
