Dills Drives to Eighth-Place Finish at Cottage Grove during Season Opener
Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (April 14, 2016) – Patrick Dills put together a strong season debut last Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway, where he registered a top-10 finish in the 360ci sprint car class.
The night began with Dills qualifying 10th quickest around the high-banked, quarter-mile oval, where approximately two dozen racers competed.
“The track was super technical,” he said. “Experience was needed. We took all the advice we could get. The groove was around the top. I probably could have been a little higher on the track to go a little faster, but we were pleased with my qualifying.”
That lined Dills up on the pole for a heat race.
“I had Garen Linder outside of me with Roger Crockett behind me and Henry Van Dam next to Roger,” he said. “We were all neck and neck the whole time. There was one time we were four wide and I had the lead, but we got pinched and lost a couple of spots. We were still happy because I was hanging there with those guys.”
Dills placed fourth in the heat to lock into the 10th starting position for the main event.
“The track was super, super technical,” he said. “You had to be on the very top or the complete bottom. I was searching for anything to learn. I was up to seventh at one point, but there was a restart and I lost a spot. My goal was a top five, but we were happy with eighth.”
Dills ran in the top 10 throughout the main event before posting an eighth-place result. He will return to action this Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway for the Extreme Sprints season opener.
“We have lots of confidence,” he said. “We’re going to try to pick up where we left off in the Extreme Sprints.”
Dills claimed three Extreme Sprints feature wins at Cottage Grove Speedway last season, including the season finale, en route to his first track championship.
