The Pacific Northwest region has seen a real big youth movement in the last few years. One of the drivers to really splash on the scene is Collen Winebarger of Corbett. The youngster, who drives his Discount Race Car Parts/Frisbie Motorsports/FinishLine Graphics/Sweere Trucking #S Shaw by Taylor, has accumulated six victories in 2015 and is currently second in the IMCA Modified points in the state of Oregon.

“It's hard to complain about this year because we've been the best we've ever been,” stated Winebarger, “but we also have had some bad luck with poor finishes late in the race after running up front.”

Winebarger has managed to win three features at Willamette Speedway, where he the defending track champion, while he also has a victory at Sunset Speedway Park, where he also is a former Tracer champion. In addition to Modified successes Collen has two Late Model feature triumphs at Madras Speedway in central Oregon. He currently resides second in the Northwest Modified Cup points and is third in local points at Willamette Speedway in the Mods.

Before racing began in the Pacific Northwest young Winebarger spent a lot of time racing in the winter in California and Arizona. So he is familiar with the caliber of cars he will face as several top names in the Western United States venture his way.

“It's never good to set your expectations too high because of disappointing yourself,” he would continue, “but I think we're very comfortable with our program right now to where we can run top five every night and compete for wins all week. I'm really looking forward to the stiff competition coming out here.”

The 2015 Wild West Modified Shootout kicks off at Southern Oregon Speedway on Saturday June 13th. The tour will wrap things up at Willamette Speedway on the 19th and 20th to close the speedweek out for the second straight year.
