Cottage Grove Speedway would host the Mark Howard Memorial on Saturday August 23rd. Towns would lose the lead on lap ten to the Big Sky Landscaping #88 Camaro of Kevin Roberts from Gresham.
Not too long after a lap thirteen restart Roberts and Towns would get locked up with each other’s bumpers forcing both of them to slow down and allowing the D&L Truck Parts/Engine Research Development #74 Chevelle of Eugene’s Andrew Langan to obtain the lead on lap sixteen. Langan would start to check out and development a sizable lead until Jody Tanner of Portland, in his Wilburn Racing/Eastside Paving/John’s Frame Shop #36 Camaro, chipped away and eventually passed Langan on lap twenty-four. Langan would get the top spot back on lap twenty-five and hold back Tanner to win the race to collect his third career Wallbanger Cup and adding to his 2009 and 2011 triumphs.

Crockett would score his third win in as many starts at CGS in 2014 and continues a win streak at the 1/4-mile clay oval that dates as far back as the summer of 2012.

Schmidt, of Eugene and in the EMS Truck Repair/Cindy Sew It/West End Performance #9 Pro, took the lead on the opening lap and would actually have a great battle with Jasper’s Gene Ashley on lap six. Schmidt would retake the lead on lap seven but got caught up in a wreck on lap nine collecting several other front runners.
The Akin Racing #54 Monster of Scott Akin from Crow would inherit the lead only to get passed for the top spot on lap eleven. Gene Ashley would lead the rest of the distance to park his Furniture Options #85 entry in the winner’s circle.
