The Summer Sizzle Tour would be in action for the second round at Cottage Grove Speedway. An extremely full pit area would see teams representing the states of Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and North Carolina as well as the Canadian province of Alberta.
Ryan Foster of Anderson, California would grab the lead on the opening start. Foster would set a rapid pace but before too long lapped traffic came into the mix. Once Foster tried to negotiate the back markers Central Point’s Mike Wheeler started to put quite a bit of pressure on him.
Wheeler would seize the lead with some clutch moves in traffic only to return it back to Foster due to a caution coming out before a lap could be completed. Foster managed to keep all challengers in check as he would hold on for the win to make it two nights in a row that the RFC Chassis/Oregon Outlaw Speed Shop #41 RFC visited victory lane. Foster also become the first multi-feature winner in Summer Sizzle Tour history.
Mike Wheeler was a respectable second in his RFC Chassis/Oregon Outlaw Speed Shop #1W RFC while behind him in third would be the Black Dog Drilling/QRC Karts/Sillico Racing #24 QRC of Sutter, California’s Tyler Seavey driving for car owner Jason Silliker. The rest of the top five would be made up of Jimmy Elledge from Mooresville, North Carolina in the Burris Racing Tires/Joe Gibbs Motocross Racing #81 QRC in fourth and the Bunce Equipment/Village Green Resort/BC Motorsports/Rocket Designs #13 RFC of Tyler Thompson of Harrisburg in fifth. The Bunce Equipment/Village Green Resort/BC Motorsports/Rocket Designs #77M RFC of Makenzie Thompson from Harrisburg would win the consolation feature earlier in the night.
In the 250cc main event Vancouver, Washington’s Kyle Cormican would be the mount to beat. Cormican would get the lead early and seemed to have the field covered until lapped traffic would come into the mix. Cormican managed to keep all challengers in check though as he would pick up the victory in his Schram Brothers Excavating/RSR Racercraft/Xtreme Motorsports/James Gang Pizza #113 RFC in the winner’s circle. Also Cormican would perform a clean sweep of the evening’s events as he would win both heat races in addition to the feature.
Portland’s Duke Johnson would be a close second in the Oregon Outlaw Speed Shop/Luck O’Jonny/Old Black Daddy Foster Care #151 RFC and the QRC Karts/Logo USA/The Joie Of Seating/Joe Gibbs Racing Engines #33 QRC of Cottonwood, California native Lucas Ashe. The balance of the top five would consist of Roseburg’s Adam Morin in his C&S Transmissions/Next Generation Paint Service #12 QRC in fourth and the Goss Family Racing #21 SKE of Alex Goss from Eugene in fifth. Lucas Ashe would win the consolation feature earlier in the night.
In a caution filled 125cc main Conner Hanson from Creswell would be the kart to beat. Hanson would take the lead on the first lap and keep his Hanson Contract Cutting/BC Motorsports/DT Motorsports/Dirt Monkey Productions/Horner’s Inc. #55H QRC. For Hanson it would be his second consecutive Summer Sizzle Tour win and also a clean sweep of the night’s events too.
The Linn-Benton Insurance/A.A. Towing/James Gang Pizza #47 QRC of Albany’s Trinity Pendley was second Kyle Roles of Lebanon was third in the Knothole Market/Big Sky Landscaping/Bunce Equipment/Clayton’s Cornwell Tools #02 QRC. Crossing the wire in fourth was Buckley, Washington’s Colby Thornhill in the P.G.H. Excavating/Oregon Outlaws Speed Shop/Northwest Auto Wraps/R.S. Race Products #19 RFC while the Destiney Smith Motorsports #18S QRC of Sutherlin driver Destiney Smith was fifth.
The Black Dog Drilling/QRC Karts/Sillico Racing #24 QRC of Grand Prairie, Alberta’s Benjamin Silliker would grab the early lead in the 5HP Open main event. Unfortunately he would spin in turn two giving the lead to Carter Patterson from Lebanon. Patterson, in the James Gang Pizza/Clayton’s Cornwell Tools/Rebecca’s Barber Shop/King Office Equipment #47 QRC, would stay out in front for the rest of the distance to pick up the win.
Reno, Nevada’s Jensen Ternora would finish in the runner-up spot in his Ternora Racing/I.T.S. Logistics/Small Revs Racing Engines/Dias Family Racing #1J QRC and behind him in third was Benjamin Silliker. Coming home in fourth was the Discount Race Car Parts/Big Sky Landscaping/Absolute Auto Service/Frisbie Motorsports #1W QRC of Corbett chauffeur Skyler Winebarger while the Riggs Racing #32 Hubbard of Eugene’s Seth Riggs was fifth.
The 5HP Intermediate main event would be simply crazy. Cottage Grove’s Isaac Stere would get the early race lead in his Stere Racing #32 QRC entry. The P.G.H. Excavating/Oregon Outlaws Speed Shop/Northwest Auto Wraps/R.S. Race Products #19 RFC of Colby Thornhill would take over the lead shortly but would give up the lead due to spinning in turn two. Austin Sause of Cottage Grove would inherit it but would get out of shape on the very same lap exiting the fourth turn and Isaac Stere got back to the front.
Stere would set the pace for a few laps but a yellow flag would come out bunching the field up one last time. The Wheeless Trailers Sales/Cooper’s Pest Inspection/Umpqua Survival/Central Coast Vacuums #7 QRC, of Austin Sause, would retake the lead on the ensuing restart to win the main event.
Vancouver, Washington’s Kylee Day would place in second in her Discount Race Car Parts/Terry’s Drain Service #10D QRC while the James Gang Pizza/Clayton’s Cornwell Tools/Rebecca’s Barber Shop/King Office Equipment #47 QRC of Lebanon native Makayla Patterson was third. Colby Thornhill would end the race in fourth while Isaac Stere was behind him in fifth.
Last but not least the Pee Wee division would host an entertaining race. Jayden Trupp of Coos Bay was ultra-quick in his Dave Foote Motorsports/Nexdor Tobacco And More/Trupp Family Race Team #72 QRC and looked like he was going to cruise to victory lane. On the final lap though Trupp and Medford’s Trevor Grimes would tangle with one another in turn three. This would give the Mary’s Gateway Laundry/Ken Stevenson Trucking/Chip Express/Harris Machine And Design #75W QRC of Gavyn Woody from Elkton the opportunity to seize the lead and secure the win.
The Lundquist Racing #88 QRC of Cottage Grove’s Nikolas Lundquist was second and Jayden Trupp was third. In fourth would be Trevor Grimes while the Dave Foote Motorsports/Nexdor Tobacco And More/Trupp Family Race Team #722 QRC of Coos Bay’s Lydia Trupp was fifth.
The Summer Sizzle Tour will wrap things up at Willamette Speedway on Saturday August 16th. The pit meeting is scheduled for 3:45 PM with Hot Laps and Racing to follow.
