Bunker Hill Dragstrip
Musselman Ends Up on Top of Growing Motorcycle Series
While the majority of the racers who frequent the gates at Bunker Hill Dragstrip race down the track on 4 wheels, the growing Schnitz Racing Mo Money Motorcycle Series presented by Maximum Powersports, brought several racers to Indiana’s historic dragstrip to compete on two wheels during the 2023 season. The Mo Money Motorcycle series started by Tim Smith and Brett Engel chose Bunker Hill Dragstrip to host their street bike point series last season, where veteran motorcycle racer Mark Musselman was named the 2023 series champion.
In 1975, at the age of 16, Musselman got his start in racing, by racing his daily driver at Avilla Dragway. Ten years later, he would transition to racing motorcycles and hasn’t looked back since. It wasn’t long before Musselman was a proven threat in the motorcycle class. In 1987, two years after making his first pass down the dragsrip on two wheels, he won his first motorcycle championship at Avilla. That championship was followed up by two more at the same track in 1992 and 1993 and at Muncie Dragway in 1994 and 1995.
Prior to his 1992 championship, Musselman started racing a Honda CB1100F, which he would continue to race for the next 31 years. In addition to the championships that he clinched, in 1992 Musselman was the motorcycle winner at the Midwest Bracket World Finals in Norwalk. In 1994 he won the motorcycle Race of Champions at the Norwalk bracket finals. He has also had a lot of luck racing Dash For Cash all motorcycle races, and at the Bunker Hill Father’s Day motorcycle races, which used to be held annually at Indiana’s first dragstrip.
In 2023 Musselman handed his beloved Honda down to his daughter Stacy, and raced his first full season on his XZ14. His motorcycle may have changed, but his skills as a racer had not. At the last race of the 2023 season, Musselman was crowned the motorcycle series champion.
“It was exciting to win the championship this year because it was the first full season I raced my XZ14,” explains Musselman, “and it was nice of Bunker Hill Dragstrip for having a motorcycle class for us to race in regularly all summer. Also appreciate the support of sponsors that help make our motorcycle class happen.”
Musselman doesn’t plan to make any changes going into the 2024 season. He will be back at Bunker Hill with his wife of 43 years, Vickie, cheering him on and racing alongside, but hopefully not against his daughter Stacy.
While Bunker Hill Dragstrip has yet to announce official details for the motorcycle series in 2024, the series will be back. Schnitz racing and Maximum Powersports have committed to returning. Specific details and a schedule will be announced in the near future.
