Boss Hogg Collects Second Checkerd Flag

PLATTSBURGH- A lap-23 restart in the Jeffords Steel Renegade division had three of the top four cars looking for their first win of 2016. Boss Hogg (Zack Daniels), the only of the four that has a win this year, had the lead with Richie Turner outside and Brent Jarvis and Jason McClatchie in the second row. Daniels had cleared Turner off turn two and kept the door shut on the inside of turns three and four. On the white flag lap, Daniels was sideways in turn two, but Turner couldn’t capitalize the cross-over move and Daniels went on to win for the second time this year. Turner finished in second with Jarvis crossing the line three-wide for third. McClatchie and Robert Gordon completed the unofficial top five.
The Ernie’s Discount Tools Sportsman Modifieds ran 30 laps for their feature race. Nick Heywood started inside row three and made the winning pass on the inside of Chris Cayea off the second turn. Bucko Branham finished a distant second. Roger Labreche worked around Jamie LaFountain with a couple laps to go and the drivers finished third and fourth respectively. Mike Wells completed the unofficial top five.
Two 10-lap segment races scored Manza style were on tap for the Busch Beer Mini Mods. In the first segment, Dale O’Neil finished first with Pete Blaney, Josh LaPorte, Tim LaFountain and Jamie Whitney in spots two through five. LaFountain crossed the line first in the second segment, with O’Neil, Blaney, LaPorte and Robert Foley finishing two through five.
The overall win went to O’Neil, his fifth of the season. LaFountain had the deciding tie-breaker over Blaney for the second spot. LaPorte and Whitney completed the unofficial top five.
Racing action resumes next Saturday night with extra distance racing and a gigantic fireworks display. Racing starts at 6 with gates opening at 3pm. Camping is available all throughout the week and weekend.
