Northline Utilities Signs On As Major Sponsor
PLATTSBURGH- Northline Utilities, based in Au Sable Forks, has joined as a major sponsor at Airborne Park Speedway.
Airborne Park Speedway will be a dirt track in 2017 and run under the DIRTcar sanctioning. Northline Utilities President and CEO, Jamie Atkins, is excited about the change from asphalt to dirt.
“When we leased the track to John, we wanted to stay involved from a sponsor stand point,” Atkins said. “After last season’s success and the positive feedback from the dirt project, we felt it was appropriate to increase our support.”
Last season, Northline was a full year VIP suite holder.
“It’s great going into an agreement like this,” Promoter John Walker said. “We are extremely pleased to have Jamie’s confidence with us.”
Atkins is a former racer himself, most recently running about five years ago in the former Limited Late Model division. During that time, Jamie’s son, Brandon, became interested in the sport and they ran as a two car team in the number 68 and number 4, respectively.
Jamie is no longer racing, however, he is the crew chief and spotter for Brandon on the American Canadian Tour. Brandon was a top five contender for much of the season, until he suffered a season ending leg injury.
With the news of Airborne heading to dirt, the Atkins team made a purchase in early November. The purchase was a 358 Modified, which he will run on a part time basis.
“We didn’t race in a weekly division in 2016, it will be nice to have the short drive on most Saturday nights,” Atkins noted. “As Northline Utilities, we are excited for 2017 and our race team is looking forward to a new challenge.”
The Atkins team will lean on Jamie’s brother, Greg, as he has prior racing experience with a 358 Modified on dirt. Greg is expected to have a 358 Modified for the 2017 season also.
“I have a huge amount of respect for the level of preparation and commitment that John has and feel that attribute will weigh heavily on his success as a promoter,” Atkins added.
