WOO Late Models take on Smoky Mountain Speedway

By WOO Late Model Series (Maryville, TN) -- The Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway will kick off on Friday, April 27 and conclude on Saturday, April 28. With sun and 70-degree temperatures forecast for the weekend, excitement is high for the big event. Track officials have canceled Thursday’s open practice due to the passing thunderstorms.

The doubleheader weekend will consist of complete shootouts on both nights including qualifying, heat races, Last Chance Showdowns, and a 50-lap $10,000-to-win Craftsman Club Feature event. Special to Saturday’s show will be an autograph session on the midway for fans to meet the stars of the World of Outlaws. Both nights will also have a huge firework show.

Additionally, on Saturday, April 28, the 2017 Smoky Mountain Speedway Hall of Fame class will be recognized. Ronnie Romines, Guy Merritt, Darrell Parrott, Ray Dedrick, and Gerald “Peg Leg” Laws were previously inducted at a private ceremony in November. With this weekend being the season opener, it will be the first opportunity for the hall of fame class to be recognized at the track in front of fans and family. The ceremony will take place at 6:00.

Pit gates will open on Friday, April 27 at 2:00. Grandstand and tier parking gates open at 4:00. If traffic begins to back up, tier parking will open sooner than the advertised time. Grandstand tickets are $30 for adults, kids 6-11 are $5, and kids 5 and under are free. Tier parking tickets are $35 for adults, kids 6-11 are $10, and kids 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $40 for adults, kids 11 and under are $20. The driver’s meeting is scheduled for 6:00 followed by racing action.
