David Breazeale crowned 2018 WOO Late Model Rookie of the Year

By Ben Shelton (Calera, AL) -- It was a trying and arduous 2018 season for David Breazeale as a rookie on the World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series trail in his Franklin Fence & Erosion Control #54 XR1 Rocket Chassis/ Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model.

However, at the series banquet on Sunday evening the hard work, sleepless nights, and long drives were all rewarded as David was crowned the 2018 WoO Rookie of the Year.

“We would like to thank everyone who made it possible for us to compete the entire year on the World of Outlaws tour. Billy Franklin gave us everything we needed to compete and win the Rookie of the Year, and we truly are blessed to have him,” Breazeale said. “Austin Arnold, Scott Johnson, Ryan Arnold, Mason Allen, Todd Pruitt and Brett White all crewed the No.54 this year. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. Austin Arnold dedicated his life to this race team for the year, we are truly grateful for him.

“I want to thank all of the drivers and crews from the other teams, who pitched in to help this year when we needed it the most. This is a tough deal, driving up and down the road with a lot of sleepless nights. I appreciate how the World of Outlaws family treated us so well. It’s been a trying year, but it’s been a fun year. Last, but definitely not least, I want to say a heartfelt thanks to all our sponsors for their continued support.”

David ended the year ninth in the overall series points. In 40 WoO events he recorded two Top-five finishes and 13 Top-10 finishes. He ran select unsanctioned events, and added a Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) victory on August 24 at Mississippi’s Hattiesburg Speedway.

Over the weekend, he concluded his 2018 campaign during the 12th annual World of Outlaws World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte (Concord, North Carolina). With 76 entries on hand, Breazeale charged from the tail of the field in the first event to finish 22nd, while Saturday night’s finale found Breazeale surging to a 13th-place finish.
