Minnesota Missile Monday: Weekend in Wisconsin
July 13, 2020
Saturday Mississippi Thunder; Fountain City, WI
Eleven drivers signed in for competition at Mississippi Thunder in the Jr. Wing division. KC lined up alongside the 32 of Ryley Finnegan as each driver won a heat race and finished second in their other heat. The lead duo paced the field down the front stretch into turn one with Finnegan having the preferred inside line into the turn. As Finnegan got to the exit of turn two, he spun ahead of the field bringing out the caution. The field was realigned for a complete restart. This time, Finnegan got a better start and quickly pulled ahead to a 10 kart length lead at the end of lap one. KC had a comfortable lead over Autumn Frandsen and Bentley Post who were battling for third. On the third circuit, the field was slowed again for Carlos Bergara and bunched up for the restart.
When the greed dropped, KC was running strong, but did not have enough to do anything with Finnegan. Ayden Erickson worked his way to fourth and was closing on Frandsen for a podium run. Finnigan was able to easily hold on to the lead and claim his first feature win in the Jr. Wing class. KC Sparks came home second ahead of Frandsen, Erickson, and Hoyt Cournoyer.

Sunday Cedar Lake Indoor Arena; New RIchmond, WI
There were only six drivers on hand for the Sizzlin’ Summer Series race on Sunday but the field was full of stiff competition. The feature event was paced by Blake Adams and Michael Hucovski. The second row starters. Tyler Alton and KC Sparks all had the same finishing points after the heats so the top four positions were lined up based on draw.
On the start of the feature, Sparks made contact with his front wheels, getting his kart upset and dropping to the back of the field. Getting into turn one, Brody Kohnke and Sparks made contact, popping Sparks’s left front tire off the seal. Since the wheel didn’t lose air immediately, KC took his position and restarted the feature, running a close fourth to Hucovski for third as Adams and Alton pulled away from the field. As the tire continued to go down, Trenton Boyer was able to move past Sparks. Adams kept his kart stuck to the lower inside line for the duration of the event. In the final laps, Alton began to close in on the lead and coming to the white flag, Alton mdid everything he could but had to settle for runner up to Adams. Hucovski, Boyer, Sparks, and Kohnke finished the field.
