Putnam rallies in final weekend to secure Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series championship

With the competition for the inaugural Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series title going down to the wire, Josh Putnam was the driver who emerged victorious in the championship battle, when the checkered flag flew in Saturday night’s series finale at Swainsboro Raceway.

Putnam was awarded with $20,000 for his 2023 championship-caliber consistency with the tour aboard his Zippy Auto Sales No. 212 Randle Chupp Race Consulting / Morris Brothers Construction / XR1 Rocket Chassis Super Late Model.

“Man, I was worried about how it would all play out after Friday night because we didn’t have the best finish, but on Saturday we did exactly what we needed to get the championship. I say a huge thank you to Jeff Greer and everyone who makes this possible for me. The competition on this tour has been so tough this year, and even during our most trying times we never gave up, and that’s what led to this title,” Putnam said. “With the point battle over, we’re looking forward to heading to Whynot (Motorsports Park) this weekend to chase some big checks.”

Entering the weekend just four points behind the point leader, Josh Putnam and his team unloaded their No. 212 Rocket XR1 at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway for the final weekend of the 2023 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series season on Friday afternoon.

With 33 Late Models in the pits, Putnam moved forward three spots in his heat race before winning his B-Main to secure his spot in the A-Main.

Rolling off 18th in the $5,000-to-win feature, Josh recorded a 15th-place finish.

For Saturday's $23,000-to-win finale, Josh stopped the clock fifth quickest and finished in the runner-up position in his heat race. Needing a strong finish in the finale to claim the championship, Putnam ran inside the Top-10 for the entirety of the 60-lap main event and wound up fifth at the checkered.

With fellow title contender, Joseph Joiner finishing outside the Top 10, Putnam secured the 2023 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series championship and took home a $20,000 paycheck for his efforts.

The team now turns their attention to the 29th annual Coors Light Fall Classic at Whynot (Miss.) Motorsports Park. The Super Late Model weekend includes twin $3,000-to-win, 30-lap features on Friday followed by a $15,000-to-win on Saturday.
