Amantea Advances for Sixth-Place Outing During USAC East Coast Sprint Cars Season Opener

Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (April 4, 2022) – Joey Amantea posted a sixth-place result during his season opener last Saturday, marking his best start to a season since 2019.

Amantea moved forward in both his heat race and the feature during the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars event at Bridgeport Motorsports Park.

“It was really good,” he said. “It was just good to get back in the seat. I missed the sprint car. I love the micro sprint, but the sprint car is a completely different animal. In the heat race, just being out of the seat for so long, I forgot how to drive a sprint car until the last lap. I felt back at home in the feature and remembered how hard I could drive it.”

Amantea advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the fifth row in the main event.

“I regrouped and ended up going from 10th to fifth in the first couple of laps,” he said. “The rest of the race we battled from third to sixth. Cautions didn’t fall our way. We had a harder compound on the right rear so it really needed to be hot to work and the cautions killed it. We ended up falling from fourth to sixth after a couple of late cautions.

“Me and Kenny Miller had an eight-lap slide job battle every corner. It was really clean. In wingless you give each other more room and more respect so I really enjoy that. We showed speed the whole night. We had a great outing for the first night out with a new crew chief. I think we’ll be in contention for top fives and top 10s every week.”

Amantea plans on making his micro sprint season debut this Friday at Spirit Auto Center Speedway in Swedesboro, N.J.
